PTS tomorrow - help?!

Been reading this thread and its made me cry so much, RuthM I do understand what you mean.To pass peacefully as possible , quickly and pain free is what I would want for all those I love and hold dear, as death is something we all must face.We buried my grandmother yesterday, she was 97 yrs old.I was,nt sad that she had passed away, rather glad that she was now pain free and hopefuly in a better place. She was nearly blind, deaf , and unable to walk, every time I saw her she told me she prayed that god would come and take her.She passed quickly in the end and it was a blessing.Doing the right thing for those we care about and love is so hard, hope your doing ok today , seeing him suffer must have been so hard, you have saved him from that x

Thank you all x

He had a lovely morning with a big special breakfast. A nice brush and massage then munched on the nice, long grass with his best friend.

The vet and collector from the crematorium where lovely and very supportive.

It wasnt nice to watch but I stayed with him through it until he was gone.

It's the hardest thing I've ever done and so heartbreaking that words cannot explain.

Took some time off work to grieve and come to terms with it.

Thank you everyone. I couldn't have done it without support and understanding. My heart goes out to anyone else who's lost their beloved animal or in the same situation xxx

My heart goes out to you . . . big hugs and RIP your special boy x

You did absolutely the best you could for him, imo.
It is the hardest part of owning any animal, when you need to put your own feelings aside and think only of the animal's best interests.

your very brave and he would love you even more for doing the right thing. I had my girl PTS in March (after 17 years) I miss her everyday, but it does get more bearable! Hugs x

hugs for you and well done for thinking of his welfare before your own....it is the hardest and best thing we can do for any of our animals and i hope i can be strong when its my horse's time......this thread has made me cry but also made me feel reassured that there are so many loving sensible horse owners on this forum.....try not to feel sad....

I have followed this and am glad it went ok for you both. It is the right thing but nothing can make it easy. You have to think these are the cared for lucky horses with loving owners who really have tried to make it easy. Every time I read one of these threads it really provides such support to everyone who is going, about to or gone through the PTS.

I am in the waiting zone..on the yo yo. So I find this so helpful with the tips ie the buckets of feeds etc to make it as easy for our best friends when its time to say good bye.

RIP. Big hug to youx.

As promised here is my lovely boy on his last day. Collected his ashes today so he's finally home to stay forever.

Thanks everyone.

RIP Freddie xxx

It's so much kinder to do it before they are struggling. It's nearly 3 years ago since i had my poor cooper pts. he would have withered away over the winter, and while the vet said she couldnt tell me to put him down, she compared his level of pain, even with bute, to a bad toothache, and he'd suffer til the end, well, i just couldnt do that to him. it broke my heart, and i will always love him, but i had to do it, for him. I hope he understands, and i think he does. dont let your horse suffer, be kind to him. xxxx

So Sorry Jess

RIP Freddie. (((((hugs))))) his pain is over. Its hard to lose someone so close.
Un horsey/ animal people never understand the closeness we animal lovers get to these magnificent Horses (or any animal) I think its specially hard with a horse, where you shared so much and been part of his lifes journeys.

(sponsored rides- dressage-hacking- eventing what ever)

Gallop free Freddie :)xx
