I've just had an email from dogs trust to say they will no longer be offering public liability insurance to companion club members from the middle of this year.

What do other people who self insure for vet bills do for public liability for their dogs?

Thanks in advance 🙂

I have had same. Luckily mine has just renewed

I have emailed them back questioning why they don't just stop insuring banned breeds rather than punishing all dog owners. Given their reasons for stopping PL due to huge payouts for banned breeds seems logical to me! Why on earth were they accepting to insure XL bullies? Recipe for disaster imo and now we all have to bear the brunt of their decision.

My thoughts exactly, they're going to lose a lot of supporters who are likely to never claim if they go ahead.

Just checked and ours renewed in October. Will be cancelling that direct debit then! I've also emailed and asked if they've fully considered the consequences of this decision.

I went to check my Saga home insurance cover and there was no mention of third party cover for pets. I used the website chatbot and it confirmed that pets are covered as part of my home insurance. Worth a thorough check even if not explicitly mentioned.
