Apologies for lack of updates and photos, will deal with the photos asap but last Sunday we collected our new pup. After losing Rosie we needed company for Chloe and went back to the same breeder, we now have ESS boy Alfie. Anyway, my problem, he will not settle in his crate or play pen. Chloe loved it and was always happy to be in either but Alfie screams the place down as soon as we leave him in either. He is OK left alone but with the others but for his own safety I like him crated when i cant watch him and overnight until he is a bit bigger and can hold his own in any rough and tumble. How long is it acceptable to leave a pup who is obviously distressed, really howling, yapping and a terrible plaintive little cry. I left him for 40 mins last night, watching from a distance but out of his sight and then couldnt bear it. The second he stopped for a breather I scooped him out (so as to try not to encourage rewarding the yapping). We will not need to use the crate or playpen long term, they are, as I said, just until he is about 12 weeks, currently 8, and I know he wont get squished by his bigger cousin. Help please as I am currently feeling really mean and not sure whether to give up with the crate or persevere for a few more nights.
