We have the chance of a lab x border collie, 10 weeks old and is an outdoor/kennel dog.
We are looking for a puppy that will be good with kids and horses - is 10 weeks getting a bit old for bonding/training and also, would we be best to get a puppy that is housebred rather than from an outdoor kennel?

A friend said that 8 weeks is much better and also best to get one used to the house?

Thanks for any advice.

10 weeks is nothing - it will still be a baby! It might take him a bit longer to get used to normal household noises than an indoors dog, but I see no reason why such a small puppy shouldn't adjust quickly, provided it is an otherwise healthy and well-adjusted pup :)

I got my most recent lab at 10 weeks and she spent her time growing up with the breeder in a shed. Has it made a shred of difference? No! She is the most lovable dog, copes fine in both house and outside. Fab with kids, horses and other dogs.

Not at all too old, it is still a tiny baby pup, I usually get mine at six months and we would never let ours go until at least 8-9 weeks.

Would not make a difference to me where the pup was born or raised, once it is in your home, it is up to you to raise it to your best abilities :)

TBH my JRT that I got at 11 weeks is far more normal than my other one I had at 8 weeks. I read that more time with the mother, within reason, helps the dog learn to toilet train (provided the mum is toilet trained that is) and learn to be a well rounded dog.

10 weeks is perfect IMO.

Three of my lurchers were kept kennelled as pups, one until she was five months old, they're clean house pets now. Ten weeks is no age. Many people get older pups and adult dogs and eventually bond and successfully train. :)

I don't think it would be an issue at all 2 weeks is really little difference at that age!

Where are you getting this puppy from? Are you sure its not a back yard breeder?
