Just wondering about prize money with BD. I understand each class has an open and restricted section. Does each section win it's own prize money, or is prize money given to the 2 sections combined.

E.g, if 1st prize is £20, does R winner and O winner get £20, or just one of them?

Also, if the classes have low entries, I'm guessing prize money gets awarded per number of starters?

I'm looking at joining, but with the classes and membership being so expensive I want to see if I have a chance of winning any money back!!

It depends. BD have brought in a new rule for 2009 that as i understand it, prize money must be given, i.e. no prizes in kind or vouchers etc. Saying that, some venues do give prize money for each section, but some to give overall, i.e. the 3 highest place riders in the open & restricted combined. The would be stated on the schedule by PO - which means percentage overall. Hope that helps.

It is up to the venue whether to do prizes overall or per section, but I have never come across a venue that gives prizes for both sections separately! You will have to fight it out with the open riders

Haven't got my rule book to hand but I think the prizes (other than 1st) are only given out if there are a certain number of entries. Willing to be corrected though as I know there have been rule changes about the level of prize money etc. I have certainly been to venues that have only given out 1st place rosettes in small classes.

ETS see http://www.britishdressage.co.uk/uploads/File/Rules%202009/BD_Rulebook2009%201.pdf for further info if you like - prizes are in Rule 40. Good luck

It can be done - have some faith! (ooh, and remember it's not the winning, it's the taking part, etc etc

The prize money will still be for the top 3 scores. So per scheduled class regardless of sections within that class.
Hope that makes sense.
The rule came in as some venues were not giving prize money at all.
