I'd say that was pretty obvious given the username!!

Why would this be a windup I dont really care what you think and will keep my horse as I see fit!! a trainee vet is ok with it yo is ok with it and so Is my mum and dad they have had horses for years we all think it is ok.

I will repeat what I said before.
Vets are flexible about payment and will accept things such as monthly installments.
If you are not going to geld him then sell him to someone who will geld him

How rude darcyloo!

I cannot afford to geld him and nor do I want to!! I am not working at the mo I got sacked from tesco for robbing which I didnt!! and they couldnt prove it.

The yard owner loves me he and I get on really well and have had a bit of a THING BEFORE SO HE WILL KICK THE OTHERS OUT OVER ME HE PAYS FOR THE colt at the mo cause of me not working

[/ QUOTE ]

So the YO, who presumably makes his money from livery, will kick out all those who are paying his wages just to keep you on the yard?

I think not!

To the OP
I am not a vet or a vet in training but I have done a degree course in mammalian biology and he CAN cover mares at the age of 3.
If you can't afford to/don't want to geld him he should be in a field on his own.
IMO you should have him gelded and if you can't afford the couple of hundred quid it would cost to do so then you should sell him. What happens if he hurts himself? Will you just leave him because you can't afford his treatment?
To your opening qu - no calmer will be able to override his natural desires to cover mares. Unless you have him gelded he will not calm down. You should not let a 16 year old handle him if you are worried she can't control him.

This is a wind up.

No one with any idea of animals would accept that a calmer stops a male wanting to bonk.

Please can you let us know the name of your training vet friend, so we can ensure they are never within a mile of our animals - someone that stupid should not be allowed near even a plastic rocking horse.

Ditto this. I'm getting strange looks in the office when I keep laughing

Mammalian biology arnt you the clever one!! I dont want to geld him you are all thick I DONT WANT TO GELD HIM I WILL NOT GELD HIM NO TO GELDING FIGHT THE GELDING [****] TONY I DO NOT HAVE TO GELD IT IS MY HERITAGE IT IS FOR THE COUNTRYSIDE TALLY HOO HAUGH HAUGH HAUGH

I WILL NOT GELD HIM!!!!!

I think you should breed from him. Leave him out with the mares then when they get pregnant the owners can pay for them and when they sell the foals you can make some profit. Excellent idea. Infact you could set up a great business, i'm sure we will all bring our mares over to you as well or if you breed a nice colt or filly some of us will buy it from you. It doesn't matter about temperament, conformation or breed, thats not important. Dont worry about a calmer, there are lots on the market but the 16yr old just doesn't have enough experience thats all, you can borrow my 4yr old son, he is very good with them from the ground.
