I have this beautiful rescue horse, he is stunning. The thing is he is a stallion well colt really as he is just coming up to 3. He has started to get a bit randy with the mare is the fields. now I know he is infurtile until he is over 5 but the other liveries are getting really funny with me. He is getting a bit bolshy to handle and can be a handful when near the women on the yard. The problem is that in the mornings we have a 16yr old girl who turns out for us and she has started to worry about handling him, so my question is are there any calmers on the market that might make him a bit more chilled?

Thanks.

He is NOT infertile until the age of over 5 - he will be fertile NOW.

You need to have him gelded, or seperate them.

My mate who is training to become a vet has told me he will be infertile until he is five??!!

He has been out with the other liveries for over a year and they have not become preggers

Hes fertiles from about 12 months old, if not younger! If he was on my yard id be going mad!

I agree, get it gelded or seperated, and teach it some manners.

How did you come to rescue it?

I dont want to geld him as I want to breed from him. The yard owner has said it is fine but a couple of b****es on the yard are being difficult.

I rescued it from a website.

OMG!!! He IS fertile!

Think you need to have him gelded!!!! And fast!!!!

I would be really annoyed if I was at livery and a colt was turned out with my mare!!!!

Id say your the one being difficult.. It worries me that you have a three year old colt and think he is infertile... Thats what worries me..

Honestly. is he good enough to breed from? If not geld him.. Being entire is a hard life, Usually full of time boxed in with no company...

You mate who is training to be a vet is therefore in a world of her own...

And the fact none of them have got pregnant is a bloody miracle.

Ditto this.

get him Gelded, unless he is the next Milton or Painted Black its hardly fair on him

As I said above he has not got any mare pregnant yet he is friends with them and been with them for about a year so he wont start now. I just need to know if there is a good calmer I could try as the girl is having problems leading him to the field.

If i had a mare i think i'd be a liiiiittle upset too

jesus christ...... i would be going absolutly spare and would not put my horse out with a 3 year old STALLION!!!

You need to be more sensible, he shouldn't really even be in a field next to mares, what breeding does he have???
Is it really good enough to breed from???

I'm starting to think this is a wind up!

Its only two of them being difficult the other owners are fine with it.

I am not trying to be difficult but I am a bit hard up at the mo and feel like he could make me some money and pay for his keep. I cant afford to geld him at the mo even if I want to so not an option.

He won't start now.....You have got to be joking right?????

The problem is his bolloxes.. and a calmer will do bugger all...

I think your really irrisponsible..

And have obviously never seen the mess a stallion can make of a mare if he gets it wrong or gets agressive..

If you were on my yard id be BAYING FOR YOU BLOOD!!

Another reason to have ownership exams me thinks?!

If you are a bit hard up you don't make you animals pay for themselves you sell them to be that can look after them and are responsible

He is a bit jumpy with one of the mares but she just kicks him and he leaves her alone. There must be a calmer that will knock the edge off. How about rig calm has anyone used it?

Its not the fact that he needs calming, its the fact that he needs gelding !? No calmer is going to stop him from doing as nature intended ! How will you feel if you had a mare and somone with a stallion put it in foal, and you then say couldnt afford the mare/ foals up keep / vet etc..

You have to think of others aswell.
