Well, Kane has been here nearly 2 weeks & it feels as if he's always been here. Can't imagine life without him now! He's really settled into his routine, which is:

First thing - comes to do the horses. He has found an unloved horse jolly ball & can't get enough of it. It's been pristine for 10 years but after a week of his attentions it no longer has a handle & is very much the worse for wear. While I'm riding, he takes it on the school & chases it, dribbles it, pounces on it, shakes it... Quite a lot of exercise for him as he just doesn't stop.

While I'm working, he goes to sleep next to me & has got less clingy. I can now make a cup of tea without him following & he sometimes wanders upstairs by himself for a change of scene.

Lunchtime - we go out & have a good play with the kong dumb bell in the yard.

Evening - he comes to do the horses which means another play session with the kong or the jolly ball.

Also in the evening, I've started basic training with him using an obedience book that my parents used for their collies. I do 5 or 10 mins max so it's fun. So far we've done recall, sit in front, sit-stay & gradually increasing the time, sit at my side & tonight we started 'stand'. I've also enquired about doing training classes with him. Somewhere nearby has a proper academy where we could work towards obedience awards, agility, & even guard dog training certificates!!

He has been to the grooming parlour & had a good bath & his claws trimmed. He had quite an oily coat & I thought that was what it was s'posed to be like, but now he's all fluffy & not greasy at all. He smells far less strong. I've also got him a brush.

I'm gradually swapping his food from Wagg to Burns & his poo has improved. He now has a kong stuff-a-ball as you can see from the photos! He has also stopped barking at o/h & will play games nicely with him.

The clipping lady who lives nearby takes him out twice a day if I've got a day of meetings & he's fine with her. She really likes him & can't understand why he was abandoned. In fact, he's fine with everyone - parents, postman etc. No barking or growling.

I've also got a dyson animal, a new mop & bucket & a special dry mop thing for the laminate...

Can I just say thank you to everyone on here for being supportive of Kane & I & for *not* saying, 'OMG, are you completely mad, having a large rescue rottie as your first dog? Send him back, crazy lady'.

Photos - some are blurry cos o/h's phone is too slow to keep up with him when he's on the case with his stuff-a-ball!!!

You need to master the art of bribing with treats for picci taking

I must admit, I was worrying for u....hence my full on posts, but im so proud of you and glad u have taken this boy on, and offered him the best life a rescue dog could dream to have been gifted with, u are a star, and not many people would have given this breed the time of day from a rescue with limited back ground, esp, with all the bad press of recent, and chose not to take the puppy route, grnated u jumped right in

, with your huge heart and took this boy on, you are what makes rescuing dogs, worth rescuing, so we can find them homes like the one u have offered this handsome lad.
When given guidance and the chance of their own family home, and love to give, they are fabulous dogs, as u now know

Good luck in the future, u really are an inspiration

*Demands* better piccies

Well you have really inspired me, I would love to have a rottie and the only thing stopping me is that I have a little bulldog and I'm not sure whether they would get on. What a lucky boy he is to have found you.

Very glad to hear you're happy together!

I can only speak for myself, but you wrote a very good first post. Though it was short, you gave us lots of good information. Such as that your parents had trained obedience with their Collies, and the [ QUOTE ]
I've done some reading, but all hints & tips on anything would be appreciated.

[/ QUOTE ] made me think of somebody that wants advices, but is smart enough to question the advices she gets before using them, not just going

And when you got some answers, you replied, asking new things and gave us more sensible information.

And you have given us updates (I really like updates

), and always with valid information. Though I once misunderstood your post, and Breeze_mum's reply, on the one about issues with OH, it's still not as if we've been needing to ask lots of questions, before being able to give you proper answers.

So I'd say, a lot of the credit must be given to yourself, it's like the proverb says "As you shout, you get replied".

I didn't post on your other threads because others had answered you with excellent advice, but must admit I had reservations that you were taking on too much with a rottie as your first dog. It is so good to be proved wrong, as others have said you have done brilliantly, and obviously really taken on board all the advice given. It would seem Kane has a wonderful home with you and I look forward to lots of updates.

So so glad to hear he has settled a bit more with you. Just one teensy eensy little point. Be careful if you let him play in the school when you are riding. I do not know your horse but if he spooked and Kane was playing around in there it could just be an accident waiting to happen. OK nuff said!
Enjoy each other he sounds like a little star of a dog and you are lucky you found each other.

finnish lapphund and I are still really glad you did not get all eaten

so pleased he is doing well with you and well done for being so proactive in making it work! I hope you have a very happy life together and Kane is very lucky

So delighted to hear that it is working out well. We have only had our JRT for a year, and still can't believe how quickly she became a huge part of our family.

I wish you and your OH similar joy with Kane.

**our P loves skipping about in the school when I am riding, and our horses never spook at her, however if anyone else was riding I would keep her under control, as I wouldn't like to be held responsible.

Aw Catembi I am thrilled to read this thread

. VERY well done, all your hard work appears to be paying off in spades. I really did have my fingers crossed that everything would work out well for you, but I admit there was a "but" ...

You enjoy your boy and it looks very much that he enjoys being with you too.
