What's she called? Its quite easy to find out a lot on the Racingpost website, including what they sold for, and any off spring that have gone through the sales ring.

No, a lot of tb's with moderate bloodlines are not going into training any more, but she did say 'fantastic bloodlines' which makes quite a difference!
Exactly!
or they didn't sell ;p
Once they are entered there is a record, can be quite amusing looking things up! (Can you tell I'm often bored!!)
If she's been a broodmare then why do you say she's unhandled ? Have you actually met the horse ? Firstly you say she's unhandled and now she might have raced ! Confusing .....
Or she was bred to be a broodmare.

After I suggested she had been bred as a broodmare (it seemed a pretty obvious reason to me as to why a TB mare would be unbacked at 6 years old), Fimbacob said that yes she had been a broodmare. I've quoted her responses as you must not have seen them.Broodmares, I thought, tended to be very well handled. And then if she hasn't been bred from, and then not backed to sell on, that once again points to her having something not right IMO. I mean, Bee was pretty awful (both talent on the track, and temperament) and still was backed, ridden away, taken into training and raced before they called it quits.
I could be 100% wrong. But I'd be going in with eyes wide open and being exceptionally careful. A free horse isn't worth a broken neck...
Thanks for all the replies. Some very interesting points that I hadnt thought of. She has been used as a broodmare but I dont know if she has ever raced. Im going to do some detective work and trace back to the breeder. Although I was supposed to be saving up for a horsebox!! Doh!
If you reread my post, I never said she was unhandled. I said she 'might' be awkward to handle as she is unbroken at 6.
I have spoken to the owner who tells me she is a delight to handle ... and was just used as broodmare,
I really appreciate everyones replies as there are so many more clued up tb owners on here and I deffo have a lot of research to be going on with.xx
