Racehorse bloodlines! WWYD?

What's she called? Its quite easy to find out a lot on the Racingpost website, including what they sold for, and any off spring that have gone through the sales ring.

Just to add, bloodlines are perhaps not as 'fantastic' as I thought. Id just googled them and they looked good but as mentioned on here, I think its a case of can trace a lot of tbs back to good racing bloodlines.

Once they are entered there is a record, can be quite amusing looking things up! (Can you tell I'm often bored!!)

Exactly, a record of not selling in the ring ;-p Someone tried to pull the wool over my eyes with a horse bred for the purpose of racing recently, they looked pretty damn silly once I gave them all this information about their horse and hence why I would not be buying it :D

Its always interesting isn't it? A friend of mine bought a 'german sports horse' from a dressage judge a few years ago, turned out it was a german bred racehorse! Only been out of training a few months!

One of our polo ponies is by Mark of Esteem, who won a number of Group 1 races, inc the Guineas. She's still an absolute brat sometimes though, fantastic breeding or not! Never known a horse who can buck like her!

If she's been a broodmare then why do you say she's unhandled ? Have you actually met the horse ? Firstly you say she's unhandled and now she might have raced ! Confusing .....

If you reread my post, I never said she was unhandled. I said she 'might' be awkward to handle as she is unbroken at 6.
I have spoken to the owner who tells me she is a delight to handle (although I will make my own mind up) and was just used as broodmare, left in the field.
I really appreciate everyones replies as there are so many more clued up tb owners on here and I deffo have a lot of research to be going on with.xx

Or she was bred to be a broodmare.

Broodmares, I thought, tended to be very well handled. And then if she hasn't been bred from, and then not backed to sell on, that once again points to her having something not right IMO. I mean, Bee was pretty awful (both talent on the track, and temperament) and still was backed, ridden away, taken into training and raced before they called it quits.

I could be 100% wrong. But I'd be going in with eyes wide open and being exceptionally careful. A free horse isn't worth a broken neck...

My horse (ex racehorse) is a total dobbin to hack!! He's very forward in the school and out competing, but will happily plod around the lanes on the buckle for hours, alone or in company. I can also gallop him on grass and always be completely confident that he has brakes. He's fantastic in heavy traffic as well, which is a bonus. What I'm trying to say, is that some horses take to happy hacking like ducks to water, even if they are finely bred :)

After I suggested she had been bred as a broodmare (it seemed a pretty obvious reason to me as to why a TB mare would be unbacked at 6 years old), Fimbacob said that yes she had been a broodmare. I've quoted her responses as you must not have seen them.

Thanks for all the replies. Some very interesting points that I hadnt thought of. She has been used as a broodmare but I dont know if she has ever raced. Im going to do some detective work and trace back to the breeder. Although I was supposed to be saving up for a horsebox!! Doh!

Ive known alot of thoroughbreds and ex race horses.

They really are not as "bad" as people make out!

If thye have a happy life with nice food and company then they are happy to do nothing!
Live out and be a horse, do some happy hacking.
Or compete when fit.

Yes this horse will need handling but once tamed she should be a nice horse and wont necessarily be a phsyco!
