Anyone got a racemaster box? I'm thinking of using this company to make me a 6.7/ 7 T horsebox but have never seen a racemaster.

Thanks .

got a very old one! The van is 23 years old making it one of their first builds. Not especially helpful for relevance, other than to say they are built to last ;) I took it back for them to put a climb barrier in it and they were tickled to see it again :D Mine is 3.5t but the build quality is very good. Basic, but very strong.

Ah Thanks milliepops. I guess you recommend them then . They are a long way from me and there isn't one in build at the moment as it was collected this morning.

You might see my post on the dressage forum as they recommended a 6.6T but another company said 6.5T aren't any good and I don't know who to believe. I blowing every penny I have to get a box built so am very anxious to get it right.

I have a 3.5 of theirs, made for me in 2012, onto an 08 cab chassis.
It's very robust, not as 'pretty' as some other makes, but does a v good job. I only struggled to start with, as previous box was a full living 4 horse 32ft, and this felt like a noddy mobile in comparison.
That said, I've carted various ones in this and it's taken a good hiding especially one summer! Only needed light cosmetic surgery by DH tho.

I don't know why you've been told not to use a 6.5, quite a number of builders use them, like the Peperharow Trophy Twin model for example.

IF you want sturdy over pretty, then worth going and getting quotes. That said, I dealt with them in 2012, so anything can change in time. Good luck and happy shopping :)

Edited to add, ask to be put in contact with recent clients of 7.5 sizes, so you can ask to visit or st least get feedback from them :)

Not come across an explanation as to why 6.5t is no good. I’m using Freddie gover for my 4.5 and he prefers doing 6.5t. Think that’s often on the iveco daily which seems to be a decent chassis to use. Just doesn’t suit me as I wanted the smaller more compact vehicle.

I'd guess it depends what you are using as your base for the 6.5 as to whether they are any good (though I don't know any of either type that weren't?)
ie there are more 'lorry' mini 7.5T 6.5s but racemasters are more van-like iirc?

I've looked at Freddie Gover but the 6.5T is way out of my price range. Fabulous boxes and at least the respond to emails which is a good sign.

The 4.5T limitations mean I would need a crew cab to have my big dogs with me and it limits storage although I haven't ruled it out. I'd thought about Kevin Parker who do fab lorries and can make it as basic as I would like but they don't do 6.5T as they say the Iveco's are unreliable and wouldn't give me the payload. Their customer service is really good.

Then I saw the Racemasters. but as I can't actually see one it's difficult to make a big decision.. They would be much cheaper and are prepared to do a 6.5/7T but no frills. It's still a lot of money for me if it isn't what I want. From what I hear though they are safe and will stand the test of time.. how 'basic 'are they anyone? Are we talking bare walls but finished well.. I don't want sharp edges , screws sticking out etc.

Really difficult to make a decision on something I cannot see.

Indestructible lorries. My horse fully tested this. He did managed to bend the metal partition arm though

All the ones I've seen (I'm nosey and they are quite recognisable) have been similar to mine, very well finished but not fancy moulded grp twiddly bits.

He still didn't have to try it again!

I don't think they've been making the bigger boxes so long as I remember Paul first advertising them, I've only seen one in real life and the finish was good just not as poncy as others, similar to my three counties, though old no rough edges or anything, just the basics.

Not sure on the cost of a racemaster, but I have a 6.5 ton GB bodybuilders horsebox, which are really nicely built. Had mine for over 6 years. Going to part with it soon, but would definitely have another.

Thanks all. Sounds good but I still need to see one before committing.

I've seen the bodybuilders 6.5T on their website.. it's above my price range. How did it drive and is yours rear or forward facing? Again I haven't seen one in the flesh.
