Racing today

Whilst fully appreciating he wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, some very good little videos on Gordon Elliott Racing facebook behind the scenes at the races by travelling staff (racing with shelley) and back at the yard.

Thanks for flagging up the Venetia clip, really enjoyed it and it reminded me of this one - apologies if it's already been posted. A friend of mine is related to Ruth Carr and often tells me about the great life her horses have. She features in the first 12 minutes of this long video so it's not a long watch but look at all those boys in the field living their best lives! Think the presenter was glad to get back to the other side of the fence though 😄

Sir Gino was stunning unfortunately dont think its a good outcome, can only hope its a tendon thats fixable

Fair play to the commentator for being respectful for his tone

The fact he could walk into the ambulance is hopefully a good sign, if it was out and out catastrophic he wouldn't have walked into it

Hopefully x rays etc dont reveal something terminal

They think its a fractured pelvis, know Ruby was saying it can cause important vessels to sever, plus presumably will be long time cross tied what other factors are there if thats what it is?

Who cares if he races again, just hope he can be saved for a nice retirement

I’ve not been watching racing as got turned off by so many fatalities , decided to try again today and didn’t see any earlier fallers and was feeling more positive then Sir Gino… it’s put me off watching again

Hope hes retired if he can be saved

Hopefully the owners are willing to try and save him
I've read somewhere that with pelvic fracture, the horse has to be cross tied for a very long time...
Not every horse can deal with this.

Let's hope that the owner makes the right decision, it's all about recovering well and quality of lfe.

He has gone to Three Counties Equine Hospital, it is not far from the track and they have state of the art kit and fabulous vets.

All depends on what the owners will want to do if he can be saved. Do the Donnelly's retire their horses or sell them on ?

I have cared for a horse with a fractured wing of ilium and she did come good. A big mare too, a shire x.

Long story, not my horse but a neighbours who was away on holiday when it happened.

She was cross tied for at least 8 weeks in my pony sized stable with her haynet on one side and her water bucket on the other. Vet told me not to go alongside her in the stable in case the pelvis broke up and she collapsed on me - I can’t recall for the life of how I mucked her out. I was told not to let her lie down under any circumstances.

The most terrifying thing was walking her the mile to mine on day 1 as she couldn’t stay at home. The vet accompanied us with his hazards on in case she collapsed. Walking her was deemed safer than loading her in my trailer.

She did get lami in the other hind foot due to the prolonged standing, but she got over that too.

ETA I would presume that Sir Gino was travelled to horsepital in the horse ambulance and was supported en route by slings - the loading/unloading and travelling is very risky.
