Everyone raise a glass tonight to Any Second Now. He finished 2nd in the Irish National today, for the second year running, at the age of 13. He also has a Grand National 2nd and 3rd to his name, and arguably should have won one of those years if he hadn't been very badly hampered by a faller. Ted Walsh said after the race today that he'd be retired, which I think he has definitely earned! A very very good horse who really deserved a national win but never quite got it.

Irish National was a much 'better' watch than the Scottish one was. Perhaps it was down to the ground for the Irish race being soft/heavy slowing down the pace of the race, whilst Ayr was good ground. (I know that the Irish race is shorter as well)

One of my favourite racehorses, Liberty Island (JPN) broke down fatally in Hong Kong today. I’m gutted, she won the 2023 Triple Tiara (Oka Sho, Japan Oaks and Shuka Sho) and was racing internationally in Dubai and Hong Kong as well as Japan.

Just seen a post of the floral tribute to Liberty Island at Tokyo racecourse. There is also one at Northern Farm where she is being buried. A portion of the funds of those visiting Northern Farm and her memorial to leave flowers was being donated to further equine injury research.

The Lion In Winter is aiming for the Dante now, Aiden said he wouldn’t be ready for the Guineas after his break and they seem to want to try him over a longer distance in preparation for the Derby.

Agreed. I know absolutely nothing about racing without jumps, and I suppose if he had won it would have been spot on, but when he pressed go the winner was way gone.

Lovely winner of the 1,000 guineas and well done to Ollie Sangster with 2nd and 3rd. Did rather like Simmering and cool name. William Buick taking the winner down in front of the stands again. Lovely bit of reassuring the horse.
