Racing today

Just catching up on the racing after work - great run by RP (one of my favourites) and also had Calico in my ITV7.

Lossiemouth also won the Morgiana today, although it’s a shame there was only a field of 4!

Great weekend for Rich Ricci! Lossiemouth, Royal Pagaille putting up a great fight, and then the stupendous win for Gaelic Warrior in a field that the UK could only dream of!
Just imagine having a Gold Cup winner, an Irish Gold Cup winner, a Grand National 1st, 2nd and 3rd and plenty more besides all running in the same Grade 1 over here. It'll never happen!! Never ever.
Paul gave him such a good ride too - even took time to put a breath into him down the back, which gave him the fight at the finish.

As good as Grey Dawning was, I cannot ever imagine him laying up with that field. And he will face many of them in the Gold Cup.

Would’ve been an amazing parade ring in Ireland to have watched walking around. Have you worked out the total prize money earnings for the field. Would come to some amount.

And of course then gorgeous RP.

No! And would have been even more if Nick Rockett had actually run!

I do remember sitting having an absolutely dire breakfast at Kempton a racecourse which I shall not name with the people who had come with the Irish and Scottish runners for their big race (including a Gold Cup winner) and commenting that we'd probably between us brought a couple of million pounds worth of horse to run at their racecourse and the best they could give us was cardboard sausages and wooden cutlery...

* disclaimer - I do believe the course in question has slightly upped its game recently after a couple of frank emails from Irish travelling staff 🤞

Great British Racing have a competition open until I think until tomorrow to win a one percent share in a Racing club horse. Just in case anyone fancies a top up to their collections or even starting a collection.

Also Old Gold have a 'Black Thursday' sale on for some of their horses.

Look at the 'Horses' page on their website tomorrow. Wonder if I'll add any to my collection tomorrow to join the 2 new ones I've got (one for b'day and one in advance for xmas, both from OH). Might ask and see if OH fancies any of the on-sale shares for his xmas present.

I rather like John Barbour -could see him in the show ring. I know that’s not the idea though.

Just want to take a moment to pay tribute to two excellent race mares who were both PTS this week.

Rags to Riches (USA) winner of the 2007 Belmont Stakes (first filly to win since 1905 and there hasn’t been a filly who has won since Rags!) as well as multiple other G1 races. She even had a Breyer model made in recognition of her achievements.

Gentildonna (JPN) winner of the Japanese Triple Tiara (2012), twice winner of the Japan Cup (G1) and multiple other graded races.

I looked after Rags for a while - she was a character!

Hewick seen. Very cute. Have always liked Botox Has and he is lovely. Fell but seemed fine. Christmas shopping done at the IJF stand. Think some - actually most -?for me 😁. Fab wins by Wendigo and Impose Toi.

Thank god Regent's Stroll retained his jumping ability whilst running off with Harry Cobden 😱.
I do wonder where now for Ahoy Senor and Hewick. Both do seem to be on the decline now, and will be 11 after Christmas. Some horses have plenty left at that age, but this pair are definitely in the autumn of their careers.

Lucinda Russell seems to usually do well by her horses, and choose the right time to retire them, didnt see the racing today as out, but Ahoy's jumping is erm... dodgy! Feels like hurdles was the last roll of the dice

Hawick has done so much for them, would be sad to see them keep going when he's struggling and something happen to him. Not sure what Shark is like with knowing when its time for one to bow out. Maybe take the blinkers off Hewick, and put a pair on Ahoy? Surprised they haven't tried him with any sort of "assistance".

Any HHO’s at Newbury today?
Yes I was eventually - my main debit card got hacked/cloned overnight and was cancelled by the bank. Got a text at 9am and subsequently spent 2 plus hours on the phone dealing with that. Fortunately bank was able to transfer funds to my backup card.

Watched the 3rd race from inside the course which Gordon Elliot's horse Highland Crystal won convincingly but was able to cheer Wendigo to win the John Francome. Great result and the noise from not the largest crowd was phenomenal. I do have some shares in his syndicate but have not the got brass neck to gate crash the paddock unlike many.

Am a member at Newbury so attended a members meeting on Thursday Night when the panel which included a Coral tipster/analyst, a host, Gavin Sheerhan and a roped in guest from Irish Racing who's name I missed who is here for this meeting. They went through the card for both days, some very interesting insights and opinions.

Will go tomorrow if I thaw out otherwise it will be ITV racing with the log burner fired up!!

Only one thing to say about today’s racing come on Constitution Hill prove all doubters wrong. Also hope Golden Ace runs better. Go CH.

It all depends on how much he’s been mentally scarred by the whole falling thing last year doesn’t it?

Nicky Henderson is very good at putting a horse back together but sometimes that isn’t enough. I hope if it all goes tits up nico pulls him up or they retire him. He owes them nothing

All that said I hope he does well!!! And golden ace. She’s great.

I'd love to see CH back to his best - he always looked to be enjoying himself in the races before those falls. But my money would be on The New Lion, I think. Be good if Golden Ace got one in for the girls too.
