Rain, rain, rain, rain, beautiful rain!

Yes, steady gentle rain is just what we need. Good for the grass, the ground and for once I don't have to water my garden!
 
Hope it makes it less humid, I have been loving the hot heat but don't do humid!

Defo good for the ground, horses could do with a clean too ;-)
 
So pleased to see it! Even the cat was enjoying it! Fingers crossed the grass will start growing again, it's rubbish having to feed hay at this time of year (sorry, can't do fingers crossed smily) :)
 
WE wondered if we were to get any. It was supposed to be here atound midday today but nothing. Thankfully this evening it's arrived & hopefully it will sink into the ground rather than run off. Hopefully this will kick the grass back into growing. Additionally lets hope the humidity will drop & it will be a little fresher & exercising the horses will be a little easier!
 
Has rained with us since about 4 O'clock. Am very relieved as need the grass to grow and the ground to soften up.

On the other hand I am disappointed as have spent all week painting/repairing some jumps and was really looking forward to jumping them tomorrow, think the ground will be too slippy now though :(
 
Lovely drop of rain tonight, just what we need for the dry crispy stuff that was grass! My next door farmer has already cut, baled and removed the first of his barley so stubble to ride on, Yay!

Shame the horses weren't so impressed - I went down to check them this evening and found them all utterly miserable in a huddle under the big oak - all galloped to the gate and skidded to a stop. I opened the gate to go in field and was promptly nudged out of the way by my water-hating shetland who took herself down to the barn and stood waiting outside her stable door.
 
Paddocks flooding by half six here and rain only started at 5. Horses have had to come in but they were quite happy about it. I left the house at half six to go 1 mile to the yard and it was so lovely to feel rain on me...I left my waterproof jacket at home and just let myself get completely soaked. It was so lovely...even.poo picking was nice :)

....my one gripe was that it arrived on the day i set in stone in January for my annual bbq and camping party

Still we made the most of it, no one went home early and we pushed through under a little shanty town of gazebos and tarpaulins

At least i am home now and dont have to camp!
 
I had almost given up hope (despite the forecast) as we've missed ANY decent rain for several months. But it started gently at about 5 pm last night and didn't stop until 4am (I don't NORMALLY get up at 4am, but am nursing my little dog with a broken leg and it was when he decided he needed out for a big one!) I checked the measurement and it was close enough to an inch - but can't see any puddles - it's soaked in!
 
It arrived with us last night and is still pouring now, our fields are too dry to soak it up so we have floods everywhere, the drains cant get rid of it quick enough and the cows that are in to calve down are almost up to their knees in water this morning, so will need to dig their pen out to release some water as I have a 2 day old calf in there. We hadnt finished hay making as only cut some on friday.
 
I've also noticed that the rain soaked I last night. I have to say, the grass has already started growing too....I took a picture last night and again this morning and there's a good couple of mm of green stuff :)

I think the rain didn't so much soak in actually as just fall down the cracks that the heat has created!!!

My fields definitely look greener already too!
 
Couldn't be better timed for me, having a horse that has a nasty cut to her thigh - not half as many flies or issues when its raining. I do feel sorry for those that are flooding though, but we do desperately need it.
 
It rained for about 5 hours non-stop round us yesterday. Hopefully it will stay away until Wednesday now, rain til Friday night and then be glorious sunshine again... That way the camps will be sunny, area dressage will be sunny but the ground will be good!
 
Yes, we have had some, on and off, for the last 3 days. Gallons Weds morning, before we were up and about, swilled everything and created hugh puddles. Thurs pm when we had started to tackle Ragwort at the top field in shorts and t shirts, not pleasant after 10 mins. Friday steady over night, so that was ok. Last night hugh down pour but as we had already had some was soaking away nicely, then another drenching just after lunch 1 hour into a nice long ride. So to summarise, I think I have seen enough rain now.
 
We had 6 hours worth last night which was very much needed and I hope we get more tonight (it has been threatening all evening but none has actually fallen)
 
Torrential rain in the last hour - just when our poor farrier was shoeing our lot - outside.

We English are never happy. I've been moaning about the heat, the humidity, the sun. Half an hour ago I caught myself moaning because I may have to get the 'Flood' signs out - my job at this end of our sometimes watery village. My little weather station gizmo on the windowsill says its 86% humidity and it's pouring - so 100% must be a cyclone??
