Field had dried up a bit over the weekend but after last night's downpour it is worse than ever. Doesn't help that the sheep have now pretty well stripped the top paddock which is where we keep them for lambing so no decent grass cover now. My dogs usually come with me during lambing but no chance now so going to have to add walking them as well as dealing with the sheep. Hard to believe we started the winter with loads of grass but now it is just drowning.

We have been lucky with a few nice days recently, but lots of rain overnight and more tonight. The ground is awful, we are lucky to have decent hacking which is holding up still, and our fields are okay in terms of the top of the field is still reasonably dry, but there's not much grass and no chance of summer paddocks yet. I have done everything from naked to full winter rug with neck in the last week!

So cross, was going pointing today.

well today was supposed to be a wash out but since 6am this morning its been dry and we have had… SUNSHINE… all day! The winter field has been harrowed and rolled (in fact it was a bit TOO dry in areas too roll and didnt pact down as well as other areas) but its done now and tomorrow is another dry warm day! Feels like spring is here… but after tomorrow it is supposed to rain every day but fingers crossed it may change like todays forecast did 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Timleyattraction, where r u? I cant get a wheelbarrow across the fields, gripes are full and layer of water over field. We are somserset. Field hasnt been dry since October!!
Cambridgeshire/bedfordshire and not on sand either. Just very lucky one of the fields seems to lay very dry pretty much all year round. They are in the summer field now and that is fairly dry apart from the gateway, its not getting churned up at all. Although only have one being turned out atm and she never runs around and is only 12hh as one is on box rest and she needs my other one to stay stabled with her for company. Although i am sure they would love to get out when the weather is like it has been the last couple of days 😢 fingers crossed only a couple more weeks and they can join the welshy

clearly Timelyattraction is not on the same planet as me. 🤣🤣I am in Devon, pouring all day today, tomorrow and rest of week appears to be pouring as well. Can barely walk across the fields. Horses back in yards after today's rain.

ETA getting VERY pissed off with it now.

It's wetter here than most years (East Anglia) but I recently moved my horse to a yard which is basically on sand. Even though the yard I had been at was on good draining soil and was better than a lot of places it is a real relief not to have any mud. I feel for everyone that does have mud and water logged soil, it just makes things so much harder :(

We seem to only be getting rain at night here. 2 nights of rain filled my IBC with water off the shelter roof. But the day times have been quite nice. As we're on sand our place goes from swamp to desert within about 48 hours.

We've harrowed again this weekend and the summer fields are firmly closed off while the boys diet. The sheep have bad tummy's so the grass must be coming through.

I hope everyone gets some let up to help dry the ground out now.

Managed to have a lovely hack this morning, but it might be the last chance this week. Turning wet again with gusty winds.

I'm giving Bo half hour on the track in the summer paddock after he's ridden which he's loving.

No idea when they'll go in there full time. I've probably got a fortnight's grace before the grass will be finished in the winter paddock.

todays forecast was for the rain to start at 2pm (per the clouds on the weather chart) and it hasn't disappointed. :D

Good to know that in this rapidly changing and uncertain world we can still rely on the rain to be bang on cue. It started a 2pm precisely.

Although we are getting some good sunny days the rain still continues and when it rains it is heavy.Every time I think we are leaving winter behind back it comes and today as well as wet it's cold after being warm yesterday.
None of the spring jobs are getting done still got fencing to repair still got muck to spread I just feel we are living on hold just waiting for some improvement.
I would seriously be thinking of giving up horses but mine are elderly and I don't sell oldies so I carry on as long as they say well and healthy I keep going.
Surely this must end soon.

We still haven't had a day without rain, we have had a couple of sunny hours which have been so so appreciated but then the rain comes back and with proper downpours so that everything is as wet as ever still.

It's looking like we might get another storm at the weekend too - 50mph winds and rain - just what we needed

Raining again, horses are in at night, don't really want to go out in the day. Costing fortune in bedding and haylage, can't put sand turnout in as want to roll first. Gripes full of water.

Apart from that it's great lol 🤣

Off to Exmoor for weekend riding in 2 weeks, will be taking big rain coat...

Started raining very heavily at 5pm and forecast to continue raining until mid morning tomorrow.

Roads are flooded, fields are flooded, it's just abysmal.

Ponies in tonight. No point them spending the night splashing around in the field or standing in the field shelter.

Still no end in sight.
and just to cheer everyone up even more we have "Kathleen" on her way. 🤣 🤣

as I posted a while ago this thread is going to get awfully long at this rate.

Horrible feeling due to climate change this will be the "norm" until it gets even warmer (god I hope I am wrong). Last winter we said it can't be as bad next year... And it's worse !!!
