Rain Ranting Thread

Storm passing….the surrounding valley forestry trees are yelling their whooshing sounds like a Mexican wave! It started in the night and woke both me and OH up…eventually got back to sleep.
It’s tailing off now. Not as bad as forecast for rain thankfully. They said likelyhood of heavy rains and flooding but the wind seems to have blown the rain clouds faster than they can empty!

Hope everyone stays secure and warm while this passes. At least it’s milder with this southern storm passing through. Those sudden minus 5 nights last week were a bit of a shock to the system!

It wasn't too bad rainwise when I left this morning, but there is So Much water everywhere. The gateways are awful despite mudmats, in part thanks to one horse who is out of his routine and gate hanging. I know we need rain for the reservoirs and groundwater, but I could really do with it being gentle mizzle not 2 months' worth in a day.

It's been foul in North Wilts all day. Peeing down, but not too windy at the moment. I took Bird's rug off yesterday to ride and didn't bother replacing it as it was so mild. She's too wet and muddy to put it back on now, I expect she hates me.

My winter field entrances are like mud stew. It’s horrendous. And WHY do they stand in that bad spot. Stand ten feet back??!! Im turning out. Doing yard duties. Getting back in after lunch. Can’t be arsed to ride as I’m exhausted after dealing with all four and then have to go to work as a cleaner. It’s saying rain all this week. And rain/sleet next week. Im
East Anglia on clay soil

Also fed up with the weather, I would really like the fields to have chance to dry off a bit so I can chuck the horses back out full time. As it is, they're in the stable / yard / small mud controlled section of the orchard, and being let onto the orchard a few hours a day. It's not ideal for the youngsters and my Old Lady, but way better than being stuck in either a stable or a mud patch full time. The next 15 days is all rain according to the forecast.

I was doing really well saying ohh we have survived January and now I am thinking this is actually just an extension of January. It is so grim and I am struggling a bit with my Mrs Spooky pants especially in the wind and rain, each car slosh over tarmac seems to create a raised heartrate

Rabbit my rising 3 year old is perfectly happy in a 200g with no neck regardless of the weather, whereas Baggs my old boy has a 400g with neck and is absolutely livid at any remote hint or suggestion of turn out when it's raining 🤣

I gotta admit, I am sick of the rain though - I understand we need it after the really dry summer that we had, but there has to be a limit surely?

My field gateway is a mix between an ice rink for slipperiness and an angry octopus trying to suction cup grab anything that gets too close (if you stay in one place for more than a millisecond).....

I've lost a boot twice, poor Mother has gone arse over tit with the horses when helping me to bring in (thank god they're saints and just looked at her funny) - yet the daft horses choose to stand in it and act surprised when they need to shift their weight a bit before walking off  The entire field bar the gateway is absolutely decent for the amount of rain we've had - but the daft twits play and prat around in the mud like they pay their own vet bills......

We had a glorious afternoon yesterday but back to miserable grey with intermittent rain and cold winds today. We don't have a lot of mud except in high traffic areas and there it is vile, so slippy and gloopy. Absolutely sick of it.

We had freezing fog on Tuesday, fog yesterday and rain, sleet and snow today. Apart from the odd day here and there, the wind has been from the East since before Christmas, which has meant the horses wearing rugs almost constantly for the last 6 weeks. It's horrendous.
