No thread yet? I'll kick off as we are going to HOYS! Hurrah. Twin 1 coming home from Uni to go with me. Which is lovely as Twin 2 set off for Australia this week. RTW trip. Wel jel and missing her loads. House of far too tidy and quiet without them!

Love HOYS. Not been for years. Looking forward to it.

What is everyone else up to?

We had a quiet day today as we only got back from Arena UK at 1am this morning, plus the weather is absolutely *vile* here.

I couldn’t have asked for more from my lovely boy - I was hoping to finish in the top half of the class but he went one better and finished 5th 🥳

Cas is now on holiday so it’s baby Nashville’s turn for a lesson tomorrow. Apart from that, I’ll be clipping as my lot have suddenly sprouted winter coats out of nowhere. 🥲

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend

Had a really good jumping lesson tonight. I almost skipped it as jumping stresses me a bit, but was glad I went. Did a little, low course of a double and a single. Nothing much compared to what some of you do, but I kept the canter going more than usual - I tend to wimp out and do things from trot. Got another lesson on Sunday.

I fell off last night! The first fall since I went splat and messed myself up. A pole fell out of a cup one stride out and Henry understandably spooked and I went off the side. Managed to land on my feet then fell on my bottom so no harm done. Fell like I have ripped the bandaid off now, which is a relief. Got back on and kept jumping like nothing happened and Im so proud of myself! I have bruised my heel which is annoying but if thats the worst I will live.

Today I am taking Mr 2 to set up for our competition tomorrow, we are doing a hickstead (SJ and XC in the same round). We have 2 rounds, one at 65 and one at 80. On the fence about the 80 one, I will see how hot it is when we are there. It's going to be 36 and that is hot in general terms but we haven't even had the chance to get used to that level of hot yet! We will see. I'd rather be pleased with one round at a lower height than wait to do 2 rounds and cook.

Hubby is judging SJ all weekend, He left at 6 this morning and I dont think we will see him until 6 tonight. 3 Huge days!

Enjoy hoys AE!

Nothing much planned here as my box is still off the road until I have enough money to do the jobs on it. Pony has been out since Monday evening as our summer fields close next week so I’m making the most of it before the winter routine commences.

So glad it’s Friday, it’s been a heck of a week at work.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

24 degrees forecast here!

Gently getting going under saddle for an October of walk work before hopefully cracking on.

Little munchkins might do some long reining around the fields.

Helping RC clear the show field on Sunday, it won't feel very wintry if we're all in shorts in the sun!

Have fun everyone x

Then on Saturday evening oh's daughter and boyfriend are coming over we are eating out and they are staying over which will be nice.

So not much horse stuff for me.

That made me check the weather forecast! I think it’s ok round here, cloudy but warm for the time of year.

Enjoy HOYS, that one I’ve never been to. Is it good?

Pottering about the yard on Saturday and getting ready for RC dressage champs Sunday. I can’t have a caller and I struggle to remember tests so I’ll be doing a last minute practice session today to ride though it again.

First lesson in a while for us, which I’m so excited for. I’m not sure if I mentioned, but we had a bit and bridle fit a few weekends ago and we are now in a new evo bridle and an NS team up loose ring - a bit I wouldn’t have even thought to put in her mouth - and she is going so much softer. So, time to get back into the swing of lessons. I’m hoping to do a few online dressage tests over the next few months so will be good to have a couple of flatwork lessons.

Then probably a hack on Sunday. We’ve been doing more solo hacking to get our confidence up and it’s really working.

Enjoy HOYS! Our YO daughter won her class yesterday, very exciting. I have no horsey plans, despite it being forecast 22 degrees and sun here, I really need to get on painting the new house so probably that. Might go for a quick hack or play in the jump field as we do plan on moving soon (still need to talk to YO when she's back!)

I do have a photo from last weekend (bought), look how athletic and un-hippo like he looks :D Not sure about me though - the rain was in my face (that's my excuse...)

Bad weather, late nights at work and Amber playing frisbee with her shoes means she's not worked since our lesson on Sunday. So hoping we get the forecasted nice weather and we can go happy hacking over the weekend as the following week we're off for our first clinic with a new instructor. He taught us at a camp we went to and I really enjoyed it and felt we were finally able to progress a bit. I had hoped to confirm that work/level before this clinic, but life has got in the way, so just to get back to that point ready to pick up over winter would be good.

Well, taking both of my sicknotes to a dressage clinic on Sunday, which is pretty unheard of for me, but with no jumping on the cards yet for either of them and the lorry needing a run, that's what we're up to!

In all seriousness though, I think I've managed to get my head a bit more focused on improving dressage performance, and i'm going to try and spend October and November really focusing on the dressage piece with both of them. The older one with the sliced up hock will be back jumping before the month is out, but there's no need to focus on that until we're more into our 2024 event season prep phase. And the younger one has had some foot balance stuff that we're working on and he won't be jumping until we're happier with what his x-rays look like - but vet has said makes most sense to keep him working and muscled throughout this time - so dressage it is.

So the most thrilling part of my weekend will be the last couple of miles of driving to the venue because it is up a terrifyingly steep hill with hairpin bends on it :p

You have rain?!

It has been hideous here! Sorry to all those saying 'is it raining?' That was rather an ego-centric (Derbyshire-Centric) thread title. It was p1ssing it down as I started the thread. Yes HOYS is fab. Yje evening shpw is 5 hours (!) but the time flies by. Classes but also demos and - tonight - the Puissance. Plus the prosecco and the shopping are fun too! Setting off soon and can't wait.

Well we had a very mixed day today.
The good:
Pony was so relaxed about the whole thing. He had a good look at the horses on XC but didn't react. Thats a HUGE win. He usually has a melt down about seeing horses gallop in the distance. HE was super in the show jumping phase, but he isnt feeling as confident as he used to. I think thats because I haven't been riding him as confidently, so thats something to keep working on out at comps.

Then he loved the gallop to the first xc fence, he was bowling along and then saw the fence and went WTAF and stopped and I popped off the side. Stupidest fall ever. I was fine, so got back on and had another go. This time we made it around! Once he got over the first xc he was away. It is his best phase but he just didn't quite understand why we were sj then suddenly xc. So another area to work on and build his confidence a bit more.

He was a good boy overall and I am pleased with our day. We will get there!

62.6 score, waiting on individual placing as they only did placings to 10th overall across Intro, Prelim and Novice when I was at the yard. I did get a (really big!) red frilly for team placing which was a nice surprise :D Apparently judge said they were scoring firmly to help us get an idea of what a real comp would be like.

Free walk (5 on the double marks!) and halt let us down a bit but we had some lovely helpful comments, and I was pleased with accuracy and our transitions up and down.

I think this is only the second time I have ridden this horse, maybe third, and we didn't get a warm up (he did, just not with me due to how the classes were set up) so it was pretty much get on, trot round once, and then go! Felt sick going in but smiled most of the way round and had a little happy cry on the way out because it felt terrifying but also really good.

Also, for someone who is putting in the work to shake off the 'nervous rider' thing, I am learning I am more competitively minded than I thought!

ETA - 4th of 10. Not bad at all! :)

Amber was feeling awesome on our hack until she managed to frisbee a shoe trotting up headlands and I only realised when we hit the track. So 1 mile walk back home in hand to turn her back out l. Then drove out to walk a mile to find it. So another day off today. One of the other liveries farriers is out tomorrow and is happy to pop it back on for me. My farrier is coming up with new plans to keep her comfy but stop her losing her shoes quite so often. It is the first time she’s lost one on a hack !
