We went to my trainer’s for an overnight stay. Chilli was so laid back on Friday that I nearly messaged my YO to check there’s no virus on the yard…! He had a moment on the Saturday and was generally hotter (jalapeño compared to the previous day’s bell pepper - I’ve started to measure him on the Scoville scale 🤣🌶️), but overall far far more rideable than he’s been in the past which meant we could spend more time on his general way of going instead of managing tension. Here’s a little compilation of the lessons:

Got him home on Saturday and then took him round Elementary 49 at the yard dressage comp! Poor boy. I aimed for ‘relaxed and boring’ rather than the more engaged work we’d been working towards in the lessons. I hadn’t actually looked at the test until Friday evening and there was a lot in there for his little brain, and quite a few things we’ve not attempted yet (sorry Chilli!) so I was delighted with just one major blip, lots of 7s and 65.5%.

It feels like we’re finally getting somewhere!

Lovely day helping at blackwater farm hunter trial & ODE, some delicious ponies going round (oh I wish I were 10 again) and some equally lovely horses with owners giving them huge amounts of praise for getting them home safely, lovely autumn sunshine and lots of happy 'customers'
well done everyone, I need a glass of wine now!

Jiffy, so miss my training at AMD, feeling a bit envious but it's what it is!
I haven't posted for a while because I really don't have much to share but I am so happy for Mr D's owner and her daughter as they had huge success at the Petplan AF with their home bred mare. Did three classes at an adv level and got a 1st, 4th and 8th. Jiffy, you may know them as they train with AK. Just so thrilled for them. So well deserved! I've hacked her and got passage (but not usually when I've wanted it!)
Mr D is going really well, he's a total star and makes me very happy but I do feel so frustrated about my lack of energy. Don't hang around, folks, old age creeps up on you!
Daughter came on Friday to leave her dog as she's off on her travels again. Kilimanjaro this time, I feel exhausted just talking to her but not as exhausted as I do walking her Viz! Poor Stan, the BT is also exhausted making sure he is still top dog. Viz is enjoying his holiday (I think) as daughter's fitness regimen usually includes the viz. His vet said he has the heart of an athlete, yeah well, hardly surprising! Enjoy the last of the good weather, we'll all be in vests soon (well perhaps just me!).

Took the big cob man to his second ever dressage show (which was the BRC qualifier 🤣) I haven't done a qualifier since 2019 😳, normally organising rather than riding so was nice to have a change!

Don't think he has ever been in an indoor either, but he did very well for a 3rd out of 9 and a 7th out of 14.

Really enjoying reading everyone’s updates.

We had a successful outing to the RC dressage champs - 2nd with 74% in the warm up class (generous judge) and 2nd in the champs class with 67% (different judge) for a lovely frilly and a sash. Never won a sash in my whole life. The winner by a good margin (3% more) was a very fancy looking dressage horse so I was super pleased with how we did.

The 12 yo in me thoroughly enjoyed the day inc the podium presentation! Bertie was a superstar and did prob our best test yet in the champ class which was perfect timing !

Good luck. Where are you off to?

Askham Bryan. I hadn't been there before but it was a good inviting course that had some questions but still allowed you to settle in to a rhythm and was a nice compact event.

Horse went really well and picked up a good placing so it was a good end to the season. Looking forward to next season already! A winter of SJ and dressage will hopefully set us up well.

That's fabulous - I think if I ever won a sash it would be framed on the wall for everyone to see!!

So rewind to early Sept because I’m dire at updating - Rooni went to the nationals for the AM silver. He was so cool, really good boy the entire time. I went wrong (yessss I went wrong). I got flustered and I knew as soon as I took a step of half pass instead of my changes serpentine. But that’s ok and he doesn’t know I let him down! 62% something from memory so would have been 64% without EOC. A really good positive experience for us both :)

A quick trip to Bury for PSG (sense check pre PP champs) and a smooth sailing test for 65% something. I made a mistake in the changes but dead pleased other than that (loads going on as BS Juniors running at same time etc).

Then most recently the PP champs for psg bronze straight and music. My poor dad was playing sole groom for me so I was just hoping Rooni would behave! He was *perfect*. Ofc he showed his many personalities but a fleeting glimpse rather than downing tools. 66%+ and a clean straight psg for 4th and 66%+ and a clean music psg for 5th :)

He only has a couple of outings show wise left for the year to get winter AF sheets and then he can have a few weeks off totally and then time for winter training :)

There wasn’t a pro tog but he went jumping the other day and had a lovely clear 90cm round and he’s got a nice hack planned this weekend too.
