Vets been and we have a new crazy idea to fix/break the horse.

She's off for schooling

There was an improvement from the last time she was seen so he wants her to be worked and monitored and as I am incabable of doing so she's off to boot camp

Ok the problem is - she doesn't have a saddle I can send with her. Saddle fitter can't come out for 5 weeks to fit something so what do I do ?

She was in a wintec before so do I just buy another one of them to tide her over ? Or see if A has one that she can be ridden in ? Or hunt down something on ebay/tack shop that will fit her nicely enough for now and then get rid

Rambling of a mad woman - sorry

Oh and BTW - it was a sarcoid and its been banded

what happened to the saddle she had before?!

Can you not explain the situation to saddle fitter and try and ask nicely. A few compliments such as "I would use another fitter but no one is ever as careful as you" etc etc would probably do the trick!

It doesn't fit and its not suitable (cc monoflap jumping saddle

)

Hmm he's never fitted Sol this is the problem so I can't use that line

Ask if A has a suitable saddle . . . and book the saddle fitter anyway asking if he could please slot you in quicker if he gets the chance. Would he be able to see you sooner if you could get her over there?

Well other saddle fitter could probably fit her in if I box her up there (beg and plead for a lift!) so I shall try and sort lift out then saddle fitter!

God damn these horse

!

I must have completely missed a chapter somewhere, last I heard the horse was b*ggered front and back and looking like being retired.

Is this some miraculous recovery that means forking out on schooling and new saddle?

FWIW I would just see if you can borrow a saddle or if the people you are sending to have a suitable saddle, make sure the horse stays sound first!

Yes you must have missed something (its easily done!)

Horse is sound(ish) after she has been treated with a course of Adequan and has egg bars / wedges and medial and lateral support shoes.

She's still not right but she has responded very quickly to all the stuff we have done.

I was happy to retire her but if we ever want to get 'permission' to have her PTS in the future we need to show we've tried everything.

She doesnt need to go for schooling but its a better idea than leaving me to it at the moment

Glad A noticed an improvement.

Why do you say you are incapable of working her?

What size, type of saddle are you looking for? I have a Thorowgood high wither that I would happily lend you if you think it will fit.

What do you need saddle wise????

[/ QUOTE ]

Saddle wise just anything M/MW. No-one on the yard owns a wintec/bates so I can't borrow and swap them for one of mine for the time being.

They seem to be going pretty cheaply (wintecs) on ebay though so I just buy her a cheap wintec 500 for 'just incase'
A may have a saddle she uses on everything though so panic not

He has his work cut out ! He had to see two cases of Lami , Sol and her sarcoid and asses her
tongue.gif

Had a chat with A and YM and we've realised I am the problem at the moment so its wiser to send her somewhere who have her as a job and no emotional attachment to her (and her being lame to kick start her progress)

I am selling a Bate on Ebay - with a MW gullett in.

I can stop the auction now if you want to buy it. PM me if you want to discuss it further.

Sorry, I can;t loan it to you as it's funding the purchase of my new one.

Oh god I'd never expect you to lend it to me! Can you PM me with the ebay link? A may be more appreciative of a nice saddle than a wintec (and it means I wont need to change over again

Ishy, speaking form experience, and given all the problems that Sol has had I would be loathed to just put any old saddle on her, and given her age and the fact that she is likey to change shape through more work/schooling. I would get to the saddle fitter or get some recommendations of another saddle fitter who can come out...
The last thing that you need is her to have lameness/stiffness through the back and not know if this is related to the Nav or not... Good luck in whatever you do tho xx

Yes that's my immediate feeling , I don't want to put anything on her but its more of a matter of wait 5 weeks and still maybe not have a saddle or just find something now so things actually start moving ...

Oh bugger

grin.gif

get them to ride her bareback then no saddle issues!

slightly more seriously my instructor has a bareback sheepskin pad which is saddle shaped and gets used if anyones saddle is being adjusted etc and is actually quite comfy so I'm told can't remember if it has stirrups though.

ISHY, I know your head's bashed at the minute and you probably don't want or need anymore inputs (the danger of posting on here I guess tho!) but aren't you just a little bit reluctant to send a lame horse to be schooled? Surely an insurance company can't insist a lame horse be worked?

Not to worry about bashing my head some more

grin.gif

She is off to my vets wife so he can monitor her , not just sending her to any tom , dick or harry - worry not

And yes they can argue she has a purpose till they are blue in the face I believe
frown.gif

Not for 1 minute would I think you'd send her anywhere. I've followed all your threads and I can see how much you care for her.

I think most people just think I'm mental now

Its perfect really because if she can go over to A it will be at the same time as my exams and it will give me some time to revise

Has Mrs A got a saddle she can use on her??

Fair play to my YM it was all his idea and he talked to Alan about it. My YM is actually wonderful and he puts up with me so he's got the patience of a saint
grin.gif

Haven't heard from A yet but I shall tell him about the saddle problem when I speak to him

Do. With so many of their own horses, they may have one that will suit.

Most schooling yards will have saddles they can use- I'd ask where she's going if they have anything thats likely to fit.
We often get schooling horses in who come without saddles and have a large collection of saddles which will do for a month or so
