I was wondering if someone might have the answer to my problem or a solution to it at least!

I have a 6year old mare that has done very little of anything until she came to me in Dec 10, unfortunately that includes travelling! :( when i first bought her she was difficult to get near a box but through time she now goes on easily with the help of a lunge line round her bum!

The only problem now is she sits on the ramp and in turn rubs her bum cheek raw! i now wrap her tail in a bandage put on a tail guard and put a bum guard on also but still she manages to do damage to herself! i have a physio coming out today as i think she has pulled a mussel in her hind leg from this also!

Has anyone any suggestions? i have also removed the partition to see if more room helps and it doesn't!

Please all suggestions gratefully received??

No advise i'm afraid however it appears my mare does this she...she pulls her tail off to a side and rubs her lady parts raw...after a loong weekend away and a 3 hr drive home it looked awful yesterday :(

its awful, i really want to start her eventing career but this stops me from taking her places1 cant afford to get physio out every week!

thinking of getting an old sofa back and covering it in something water proof, hanging it over ramp once ramp is up! but not sure!!

thats we have a breast bar and a bum bar

(its also a bit of a safety feature as they can't shoot backwards onto the ramp while you are lifting up)

Thanks for that!! just spoke to my trailer guy and he is ordering me in another bar and he has suggested filling a bag with hay to make a cushion also!

Thanks! lets just hope it works as need to get some miles on the little ladies clock and then find her a nice new home!! she is so sweet and talented that this is the only down side i need to sort!

again thanks for your help!

Sorry I'm not much help but I was told it's illegal to travel them without a breech bar at the back. Just what I was told. :)

oh now thats something i have never heard before! ive been traveling horses for 15 plus years here in N Ireland and no one has ever said that to me! Interesting!! :)

I hadn't heard it before either but was told by somebody who I know is extremely knowledgable. Doesn't apply to me anyway as I won't use trailers!

not sure about it being illegal to travel without breech bar but bit unsafe as if she is leaning on the ramp with her weight then the two door levers take all the strain - imagine if they gave and your horse fell out!

I do understand your concern and if i was using a trailer that i wasn't totally brand new then yes i would be worried!! She has only started doing this over the last 3 months or so.

I only have taken her out on 1 occasion without partition so 90% of the times that i have traveled her she has had a bum bar in place in the form of the partition bar and still rubs herself!!

I am going to fill a few feed bags with hay and attach them to the ramp for a cushion type affect!! So fingers crossed!

well my trailer had a catch break 3 months after i bought it!
I would make sure she isnt too close to the ramp - With mine I make sure the breast bar is right at front and the breech bar i use the middle loop and i put her tail over the bar so she leans on bar and her bum doesnt touch the ramp at all - she also cant rub her tail or sit on her tail as its between the bar and the ramp - I know the ramp in my trailer (ifor) is quite abrasive as I know i grazed my knuckles on the front ramp as it was up whilst hanging haynet!!
