about 2 weeks ago I put my mare on Oestress for her seasons. She was getting out fo hand and something was needed.
Before going on to this she was in tip top condition and doing better then ever after being diagnosed with ringbone in January. I didn't think this would have any impact on her soundness as it is for her seasons and the other supplements she is on is for her joints so thought nothing of it.

About 4 days after going onto the oestress (loading dose is for 7 days) she came in from the field short in her bad leg. She has been like this since going onto the oestress and seems quiet in herself and that is the only thing that has changed in her diet.

The other supplements she is on is:
99% Glucosamine supplement 1.5 scoops per day,
a "glug" of Apple Cider Vinegar per day,
1/2 mug of corn oil per day
1 sachet of bute after she is ridden so maybe 4 times a week.

What I am asking is has anybody else experienced anything like this whilst using Oestress with other supplements?
I am going to stop it tonight and see if she improves over a few weeks as like I say this is the only thing new in her diet which I can think would be causing this... Maybe its not reacting well with her other supplements or just with her in general??

Any advice greatfully recieved :D

Sorry, but I can't see any supplement for hormones could affect soundness.

By all means take her off it and see if it makes a difference, but imagine it is more likely to be linked to the ringbone rather than any supplements, so you may need to speak to your vet.

Well this is what I thought but then again, very large coincidence... and after checking her over I have found that there is no heat/swelling around the pastern (where her ringbone is) but the soles of her feet were quite warm!

I think I will give it a go and if there is no improvement then call the vet!
In my gut I just dont think it is her ringbone...

Of course it may be another foot type related issue, especially if her soles are warm. Is she barefoot? Could she have bruised soles?

Maybe a quick call to your farrier, before you call out vet....

Yes she is barefoot but she hasn't done anything excessive on hard/gravelly ground etc and has exceptionally hard feet.
I was slightly concerned about Lami with all the recent rain and the grass shooting through and now with the hot soles, although she is a 16.3hh tb I would think this unlikely but I have taken the precautions anyway as I would rather be safe than sorry in this respect! :o

I dont really know what else it could be, I rode her out sunday and she tired farely quickly, a lot quicker than usual on our usual route after also having had a week off due to bad weather. She didn't feel footy or lame but still not 100% in the field.

I am finding this all very confusing and a tricky one to work out

I have emailed NAF also so will await their reply!

Ringbone is degenerative. So purely coincidence I would say. It will be interesting to hear what your vet says.

The thing is up until I started the Oestress she was 100% sound, she had astounded the vets and to be honest was working better than she has felt in the 2 years I ahve owned her!
I honestly dont think it is anything to do with her ringbone...

If her feet r balanced and tge ring bone is not on s growth plate u will prob find that tge bone will remodel in time and the ring bone will lessen. Mine had side bone when I got her 5 yrs ago, but its disappeared now! X

I rode her bareback last night and she was fine. She seemed sound and worked well! I still took her off of the Oestress as of last night just to see if there is any difference.

Waltzing Matilda - That's great news about your horse! Star also has sidebones and DJD so unfortunately I dont think it will be quite a success story but she is still able to do all I want her to! She has astounded the vet on how quickly she has come sound and no amount of work seems to put her off (she isn't the type to do nothing so we made the decision to bring her back to full work and see how she went) I will still do what I can with her until she tells me enough is enough ;)
