I am sure I am missing something entirely, the recent thread on t-bar stirrups got me thinking. Is there a reason you cannot just scoot the buckle of the stirrups down to the stirrup therefore leaving only leather under your leg?

(I am probably being ridiculously thick!!)

Well it would slip about as it is fastened at the stirrup bar by the buckle, and it would be unsafe as it could "upset"

I have heard of people doing this, but it requires the need for something to hold the excess flap. I think Robinsons did (do?) sell some sort of sleeve for this purpose...

Mmm, interesting thoughts, I appreciate the idea of slippage MLT, wouldn't want to have a whoopsie though if the bars have the keeper joint it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

I had my stirrup leathers upside down as you describe for ages on my dressage saddle. I was waiting for some new t bar leathers but they took ages to come. It was fine, I threaded the excess leather back through the bottom of the buckle so it was secure and used some plaiting bands to keep it together. No problem ;)
