Rant about unsupportive HHO'ers

If people come on here asking for opinions I dont know why they are surprised when other members dont agree with their views. If you ask for an opinion you expect both sides.

If people post asking for help they usually get it. Others only seem to get angry when the OP states they are going to do something people think is wrong, and a horse will suffer.

If they come on here wanting everyone to take their side in a petty livery yard arguement, then they get what they deserve :D

If all people want is hugs and sympathy then they should say so. Plenty of people on here are really good at that.

And if you post that your horse has colic and you might get round to ringing the vet tomorrow, after you have done your shopping and washed your hair, what do you expect :p

That said you do need to be able to stand up for yourself
I agree but an opinion can be given in a polite non- threatening way and not everyone sees things the sameway but that does not make it right or wrong. What I objected to was being called a troll for ageeing with another person on a thread which was I admit not the same thoughts as the majority on that thread but it does not make it wrong! I freely admit I am not the usual horse owner, I do not compete I don't even school, shock, horror! I ride for fun and keep all my horses as pets just like a dog or cat and I understand that that is unusual but not wrong!

Amymay, although you have some good advice a hell of a lot of the time, you can appear very cold. I don't know what you put on the other forums but in the New Lounge I never see any sense of humour like the other members. Perhaps a lot of people take this as being rude although you are obviously just blunt! ;)

I've seen Amymay's sense of humour in action plenty of times. You obviously aren't spending enough time on here. You need to become totally obsessive and spend all day and night hanging about and eventually you'll see it. Or of course, you could do the sensible thing and go off to ride your horse in the sun instead ;) :D

I have disagreed with amymay over a few things ( I hope you're wearing your hi vis young lady ;)) but I don't think she's overly blunt. She just doesn't suffer fools gladly. Nothing wrong with that. But then I thought JM was hilarious so I clearly have a warped sense of humour myself!

You have to find them first! Then you can be nice to them perhaps they wouldn't bother posting then, saying that I was called one but don't think I am that ugly!

I'm sorry that you were called a Troll. :(

There have been some awful Trolls on here, that everyone was very nice to. It was actually terrible when it turned out that the OP (not the OP of this thread ;) ) was a Troll and that their whole heartbreaking saga was in fact made up.

Some people are too quick to call Troll now, but more often than not they are actually correct.

When you have been on here a fair while and you see the same question asked for the 100th time - you do find yourself posting a shorter, to the point answer. This is sometimes mistaken for rudeness when it really isn't intended that way.

Also tone can come across differently depending on who is reading the words. The same sentence can be changed when you imagine it being said with a kind or angry voice.

It would be nice to see it sometimes! :D

Cotc, I have seen amymay's sense of humour on here many times. I'm not 100% sure I can remember seeing yours though ;) Just because you (or I) may not recall seeing it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist, or appear on the forum sometimes :D

Being civil is not the same as "sugar coating". Unfortunately some in here hunt in packs, meaning they feel free to type anything as they know their horde will back them up. Best to ignore and just pick the sensible advice out, you can always tell if a "blunt" poster is attention-seeking.

That is awful and not quite sure why anyone would do that as it makes a genuine sad tale suseptible to disbelieve which would be a real shame. As I said I had so much support when things went wrong for me and I have seen the support others have had when having to face such sad situations that I firmly believe that this forum is a good thing regardless of the occasional insults that some have to put up with. Just have to develope a thick skin and learn from the people that are prepared to give good helpful polite advice and ignore the verbal attacks. I am learning to do that and will stick with the forum as I am sure I will learn a lot from people who know better than me but that doesn't mean I haven't got good advise to give either.

People tend not to like the fact that some people just speak their mind. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, which is what the forum should be about.

I agree that getting personally nasty about someone though is not pleasant, unless of course someone is a complete moron and the horse is suffering or likely too as a result!! ;)

I don't think it will ever change on here.

As it's an unmoderated forum, people will and do say what they will.

You say that but I was following a thread in CR earlier in the week and it's been very heavily modified by TFC

One persons replies have been deleted completely and any of their posts which were quoted have been deleted in others posts, so now if you read the thread it doesn't make sense.

I personally didn't see that it should have been modified in such an extreme way as what was said wasn't that bad, just showed the poster up to be a rather unprofessional business woman.

I have followed other threads too that end up getting deleted and the amount of people which have been 'banned' shocks me.

I am on another forum (not horse related) and there is far more moderation on here than on there, and on other forum there is 1 chap who looks after the whole site and he won't ban / modify.

Surely if they are asking for constructive advice they not a moron just ignorant and need more helpful advice not a nasty response. If they feel threatened then they will not return to the forum and the horse could be worse off, better to give a polite reply that might just make that person listen and learn to become a better owner.

I must read the wrong threads because I don't find this.

CC - I really hope that you stick with HHO. You'll soon learn which posters offer sound advice (even if they put it bluntly :p ).

Noobs, I can't agree. Most on here are intelligent, knowledgeable people. Able to give their own opinions confidently and without needing to rely on others to back them up.

Perhaps you are confusing hunting in packs with people having the same opinions and views?

Agreed, but there have been the odd posters on here who are causing/likely to cause suffering, and clearly are still unwilling to take constructive and polite advice. They get defensive. A perfect example of this was the 'sanctuary' which advertised all of their horses for free on here because they couldn't afford to keep them, despite having rescued them (and kept them in fields full of barbed wire, old cars, letting them eat copious amounts of acorns and then wondering why they were dropping dead of mystery illnesses). Said OP got extremely defensive and refused to take any advice or acknowledge that it was not acceptable to keep horses this way. Said OP irritated numerous people, rightly so.

Don't have a problem with blunt as long as it is telling me something I need to know, better that than a waffler! On that note can I ask about my TB/Welsh Sect D that keeps getting foot abcesses, driving me mad hasn't had one for about 3 years and then came in lame on Monday, poulticed burst yesterday through the coronet band ( not sure if i spelt that right, no nasty comments about that now please). Up until 3 years ago was having them every couple of weeks, vet says they are coming as her hoof is crumbling from inside and not being caused by anything going in from the outside. Any polite constructive advice will be greatly apprecitated or should I have started my own thread?

I would take some photos of his hooves and start a thread with the photos on it. There are a lot of people on here who know about nutrition and improving hoof health. :)

I've always found this forum to be really supportive, personally. Some people are rather abrupt, but there's a huge membership, you're bound to get some abrasive personalities. People will be more outspoken than in "real life" because it's all a bit anonymous.

As for all "ganging up", sometimes it appears that way if the majority simply don't agree with a point of view. It's not a gang, it's just the majority opinion.

Sometimes I think people can be a bit over-sensitive and take things very personally. If you go on an internet forum, you probably need to be a bit thick-skinned.

Also, you probably need to realise that if you're offering your own experience as evidence to back up a point, people will want something more concrete and even doubt the truth of the tale. That's not insulting you, they don't know you, it's just that the internet is full of tall tales, trolls and strange people so it's wise to be sceptical. It's not personal. :p

I don't think posts disagreeing with each other are a problem, it's only really nasty when personal insults start being exchanged IMO.

Again agree. It is normally fairly obvious to older members when someone is deliberately trolling or is back again with a new username after being banned. Newbies will have no clue!

I don't see any hunting in packs. I do see lots of people with similar opinions and experiences. Just because one person has said something you agree with, doesn't mean you shouldn't post. It's not being 'sheep' either, I really do think the vast majority of posters are able to formulate their own opinions

TFC seems to be the only one who really deals with HHO at the moment, and he will only intervene if a post is brought to his attention. It is a 'family forum' and most boards are open to public viewing so I think some degree of modifying of posts is reasonable.

The CR thread I think was due to the poster boasting of all the free advertising they were getting - advertising is against t&c's ;)

start a new thread, I would be very interested in any replies and advice you get :)

Oh no! We seem to be saying much the same thing!? Are we a pack then?

When I originally joined this forum in January ( different user name then ) I was abused and attacked by a couple of forum members.
However a number of posters stood up for me and even pm'd me to say to ignore the bullies.
I was told not to buy my horse I would not be able to cope could I actually ride etc you name it I got it.
In six months I have followed my dream and I now have the most loyal of companions :D I have received excellent advice from forum members which I am eternally great full for.
Thank you Rhino Always Henesy jhoward Murphs_Mum dankly and all the other for all the advice.
Rhino I love your posts they always make me smile ;)

:D :D I do generally agree with what you post though, there are quite a few people on here who seem to have very similar opinions on lots of things :p There are a few who I don't think I've ever agreed with too!
