So ... We live in MIL Annex, so basically in her garden!

I am very tolerant of her walking in ALL the time etc but when she slags off my dad and our dogs i get touchy!

She's got this huge chip on her shoulder about dogs living in an outdoor kennel - apparently it's downright cruel etc. I don't understand her logic but hey ho.

OH's spaniel bitch has been in season last 3 weeks so MIL insisted she moves over to my dad's kennels as Mozz (MIL whole rottie) goes bananas - fine, we moved her over. She's back today and i get greeted from work with MIL marching in my living room...

"you can bleddy tell Jay has been in kennels, she stinks, i bet she wasn't walked at all, what's she been eating? Her eyes look troubled, she's depressed. Poor thing having to sleep on a wood ledge. It's just not right, it's cruel to the animal"

*cue explosion from me*

Now i'm sorry but how dare she presume because my dogs are kennelled they are not looked after correctly?! My dogs are walked three times a day, off leads and are all working - how much more exercise does she want them to have?

The kennels are cleaned (as in pressure washed) every week and swept in between times. They have fresh water, plenty of human interaction and fed bloody decent food. All flea'd, wormed, vaccinated etc!

Now, for those who read my post a while ago this is the woman who is keeping the very dangerous, whole, rottie who has attacked both dog and humans, who is never walked, flea'd etc in case he attacks or even kills someone and who lives in her kitchen with the odd appearance in the back yard when there are no other people or dogs around?! REALLY?! Any that's not cruel?!!!

Sorry for rant but i have had enough of her words of bloody wisdom! Just to add she also likes to talk about her dogs as 'her babies' and on more than one occasion whilst talking about me, my dad as a gamekeeper etc has made passing comments to complete strangers that i 'keep my dogs locked up in kennels' .......:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

ok rant over! Who wants her?! I'll even pay the bl00dy postage!

I hope you really told her you're braver than me! Do you pay her rent? I would make it more of a formal arrangement if so, i.e. write on rent book about owner not entering premises without permission, 24 hours' notice blah blah.

I would frankly kill her for bombing in when she felt like it.

As for the dog issue, offer to take her rottie on a day's shoot and see if he survives. F-ing cheek of the woman-who does she think she is?! Can't the OH have severe words re privacy and slagging off of your Dad and the dogs and the way you keep them?

OH & I have had so many arguments over it you wouldn't believe!! He has told her to keep her comments to herself but she's got more backbone that many people i know, either that or it's pure ignorance!

Yes, we pay rent - she will not entertain idea of any formalities. tried that one too.

I have even offered to take her over to my kennels but her reply is "I couldn't bare to go over there and see them locked behind bars, it would break my heart":rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

jesus, she sounds like the MIL from hell!! Echo Katie-Lou's comment above. I'd be inclined to tell her that WHEN she's got the first idea of what she's talking about and start treating/looking after/controlling her own dog properly, then she might be able to give you advice.

People in glasshouses shouldn't throw stones! I just don't understand how some people can be SO completely, utterly stupid - well, yeah I can actually, had a very hard task preventing my future MIl from feeding my dog chocolate biscuits!!!

Me: Don't give him those, chocolate is poisonous to dogs
Her: But he likes them...
Me: which part of they are poisonous, will make him very sick and could prove fatal don't you understand?!?!?! And, are you going to cause MY dog pain and distress and pay the resulting large vets bill because you are too selfish/stupid to understand..

OK, I didn't frame it quite so bluntly but not far off... And pointed out to OH that whilst she may not agree with how we look after our dog (i.e. feed him properly, no cr*p, plenty of exercise and training) she SHOULD respect it when we ask her not to do something.

She lives in SA so don't see her much and actually we generally get along fine but this really got up my nose so you have my every sympathy!!

Send her to live with my MIL - they sound like they'd get on well.

She's constantly on at me about keeping mine in kennels. Every time she comes round she fetches them a blanket (in case they're cold!!) which they love as they make great tug toys!!!

She also won't accept that I don't allow dogs on furniture!

And constantly tells me they're underweight - nope they're just not fat because they're fed right and get exercise!!!

Grrrr!!!

One of the best things about ex leaving was MIL stopped sticking her oar in.:p Although at first she did tell me constantly that I would have to get rid of some animals now I was on my own with the kids, but there again she freaked out when I had the children and didn't get rid of the dogs so nothing new there.
My old girl who I lost 2 weeks ago was kennelled all her life (apart from her very last night which was spent in the sitting room with me), she never looked her age and was a very happy dog. Her daytime run is right outside the kitchen window (and is SO horribly empty now) so when she wasn't out in the field or being walked she was watching me and I could chat to her, I don't feel she had any less of a life than the 2 house dogs.
No real advice to offer re your MIL, perhaps put a really heavy piece of furniture behind the door so she can't just walk in.;)

A growl occasionally never hurt anyone, and it will gain you respect, just simmer and simmer, but one day, go for it girl - both barrels, then humbly apologise, draw a line and go forward, she'll back down, bullies always do, they get some kind of kick from having the upper hand - you can always move - tell her that, watch her face drop.

There is nothing wrong with kenneled dogs, so long as they get a good quality of life.

Nope, you can keep her thanks! My last bloke lived with his Mum (they ran a boarding kennels together) and was so hard to live with, always barging into his living room  I never felt comfortable there and was one of the reasons we split.

As you pay rent to live there, you really should have privacy and she should learn to bite her tongue! But it is hard, and your OH must be in a tough position trying to keep you both happy!

As Taffyhorse said, she should look a bit closer to home where well cared for dogs are concerned - better a happy dog in kennels than a miserable one on his last chance :(

I have a plan. Yes!

Step 1. Stage break-up with OH - loud and with you storming out

Step 2. Get a mate to act as OH's new bit of fluff

Step 3. Mate should be as annoying and unbearable as possible.

Step 4. Cue MIL whining "Why did you break up with the lovely girl Scranny_Ann..."

Step 5. You graciously decide to get back together - et voila! Maybe she'll shut her trap for a bit after that....multiple break-ups in a month may be pushing the believability somewhat though.... :D

Ok, so it's not the best plan... but failing that, I have some gaffer tape that could be fashioned into a stylish muzzle for her :p

LMAO at these replies!!!!

NN i LOVE your plan!!

I've only seen her once today, thank god and we're off out tonight for me birthday which is next week so won't have to have her interrupting our evening!

Re the rent, it's difficult as we pay a very small rent. Not that i would pay anymore to live in this mad house  but still!

Ravenwood will vouch for me, she's even kennelled her dogs in my kennels overnight and i have posted pics before! They are nice :)

I certainly can vouch for SA's kennel set up - I am very jealous of it!! :p

All kennels are in a lovely big, airy, open fronted barn, spotlessly clean and every single dog in there looks extremely happy :D

This is the difference between people who keep dogs as pets and people who have working dogs who (in my opinion) are usually fitter, healthier, stimulated and doted on.

If I was a dog (Oi - no comments!! ;) ) - I would want to be a working dog over a pet dog any day :)

SA - time you started looking at flats again me thinks!

Thanks Ravenwood, and i agree we need to get out of here asap, i'm looking into it and have an appt with the mortgage advisor this week coming :D:D

Godknows - Yes we have done that before - yale locked the backdoor on inside (we don't really use it anyway, it leads into her porch).

Once, her iron broke and she wanted to use mine. So instead of ringing and asking if it's ok (not that i would have said no but it's just polite to, well i think so) and when i'm back she had OH's 16 year old brother climb in through bathroom window, unlock door and let her in LOL :rolleyes::rolleyes: and she wears her filthy shoes in the house (always when i have just washed the floors lol) ... oh god i sound like a right old moaning minnie. I'm not really miserable, i promises

Change the locks and train the dog to attack in the most vicious fashion. I swear, just send her here on a Friday night when I've had a hard week at school. I'd flipping kill her!

If it doesn't work out with OH make sure you vet future candidates only score them if their monster I mean mother is :

a) Overseas
b) in a retirement home of some kind or
d) passed away

!!!

Sympethise fully! MY MIL (future) always tells me how skinny my dogs are and how I should feed them more (I have 4 lurchers that are semi working dogs and are very fit and are on a BARF diet supplemented with biscuits). She has a typical fat lab - horrendously obese! How very dare she!

You have my sympathy - the only thing to do is suck it up. Don't say anything as you will be seen as the baddy. Eventually she will slip up and look like the cow she is - then you can gloat in your own lovliness ;)

I would definitely put a stop to her walking in though - I did it by seducing my OH when I knew MIL was coming round. She walked in on us fornicating on the stairs ;) My embarrassment was far less than hers :mad::mad:. She now doesn't have a key and always lets OH know when she is going to visit ;)
