Rat bite (ME!)

When I was about a year old and we were living in The Old Coachhouse, the cottage next to my grandparents' Weston House http://tezzysmith.com/main.php/v/guildford_001/albury/P1000589.JPG.html which had rats, a rat got into my cot and I contracted septicaemia (blood poisoning). I am told I became very ill and could easily have died. Of course, I don't remember any of that, and rats don't hold any horrors for me (unlike WASPS  ).

When we were kids my brother & I were watching some ratters at work, and my brother got bitten by an injured rat. My dad was a no nonsense doctor, known for his healthy 'kids bounce' attitude, but even he insisted on taking him straight to A&E. His reaction was enough to teach me that you should never ignore a rat bite.

Unrelated, but my aunt was really ill undiagnosed in a city hospital and it took a visiting African doctor to recognise Weils disease. She keeps ducks & chickens but no one had thought to ask a few questions & put 2 and 2 together
