I know the advice use to be don’t mix raw and kibble. Then it’s ok to feed together but in separate meals.

Does anyone know if there is any research if it’s ok to feed both in same meal? Or anyone do this?

When I looked into it, that claim seemed to often come from raw feeding companies/advocates and I found the reasoning inconsistent. There were also lots of articles from other sources suggesting that this claim isn't backed up with any scientific study.

I have used raw tripe as a topper for kibble. Less so currently but fairly regularly when supporting my dog to gain weight/better condition. The only thing I found was there wasn't any guidance as to how much to feed so I just kept it to very small amounts and not every day.

Haven’t dogs been mixing raw and cooked for thousands of years. I am picturing caveman cooking meat on his fire and giving some to his dogs who earlier that day have caught and eaten a rabbit, some berries and raw eggs. Later on the dogs would have been fed bread and other cooked leftovers. Dogs did survive before the invention of dog food.

Same, Ivy loves her kibble but we still do the occasional toppers for a bit of variety. A bit more so now in the cold weather.

When we were working to up her weight she had green tripe (ick! but also super nutritious), tinned sardines, raw egg, yoghurt, salmon oil. Not all at the same time obviously but those plus a decent quality kibble steadily got her up to a healthy weight and her coat looking shiny.

Mine get the others apart from tripe 😁 don’t need to put any weight on tho!

I have a Saluki who if only fed raw gets very skinny, even though I give him the recommended amount. I asked advice in the local shop that produce and sell their own raw food and they said fine to feed raw and kibble together. It works for him as I want to to feed raw and with added kibble he maintains ideal weigh but have all the benefits or raw diet.

Does anyone have recommendations for the best places to get raw? Anyone use supermarket mince/bones?

I think a lot of areas have shops selling raw now, roughly whereabouts are you, someone may know of one. There are plenty of online places but you generally have to buy quite a lot so need plenty of freezer space.

Like others have said = no science behind not feeding both in the same bowl. It's the BARF disciples that say it's dangerous/causes bloat etc etc, I've done it for years with tripe and kibble and not bumped one off yet!! I did go through a period of feeding raw alone but it became very expensive and one of mine was constantly constipated, so now it's kibble with either a bit off canned food or raw minced beef or tripe. I once joined a BARF faceache group - my word that was a scary place!

I wonder if BARF believe humans must never mix raw and cooked food - no more steak and salad, ham and tomato sandwich, avocado and prawns, lemon squeezed over fish and chips or no cook cheesecake with biscuit base
