Re Fireworks. So Lucky Dogs Don't Care.

mine are not bothered by them and i think i am lucky as lots of friends have problems.
(none of my dogs in the past have ever been upset by them)

Perry is on his back, soundo, Kevin is cuddling my socks..:) . Seriously though, I do feel for all those having problems. The bloomin things just don't stop.

None of my previous dogs have ever been bothered by fireworks, but my poor Collie is absolutely terrified, and is right now panting like crazy, crying, running around the house .... at least the horses are not bothered!

my lurcher is shaking and panting, my collie cross is snoring!!!!! my lurcher is the first one I have ever had who is so terrified of loud noises, fireworks, shooting, even people next door moving furniture can set her off, I do find zylkene helps but unfortunately I wasn't quick enough to give her one before the fireworks started and its pointless once she is in a state so its just a waiting game till she calms down..i hate them!!!!!!!!

I posted this thread as light hearted. However I would like to add, I really feel for those who have animals that do stress. My horses, luckily don't care either, but that I think it is just luck, same with the dogs. I hate firework night, and the thing is, it isn't just one night is it? Where the H*ll does everyone get the money to burn these things, they ain't cheap?

The three girls aren't bothered at all..... the big macho roughy toughy dog is panting and stressed now :( Thought about ACP but he isn't bad enough for that & it is really too late to bother - so I am giving him greyhound cuddles on the sofa :)

A rock star used to live next door and he had mega displays every weekend. All the animals here got desensitised, the horses used to stand and watch, almost saying ooh and ah. The labradors think there must be something to retrieve and spend the evening looking for dead things. My lurcher hates it but luckily has gone deaf so tonight is passing her by.

The pointy nosed ones are either asleep or watching out of the window! My Pointer is very unhappy but is wearing his thunder shirt which is a godsend and sleeping on my lap.
Must say I'm disgusted with the government's response to the petition to stop selling the bloody things to the public :-(

One of my dogs was killed last night when she ran blindly away from home (escaped) and on to a main road during a display. To say we are devastated is an understatement.

So sorry to hear that sad news welshD.

Mine don't notice fireworks either, not even a stir. Wonder why some are bothered and some just aren't? I read that if you totally ignore such things as fireworks from day one and act as if everything is calm and normal, this can have an impact on a dogs reaction to them. Not sure how reliable this theory is though.

I have a springer and a springerxcollie, both bred to be gun dogs and both terrified of the noise of fireworks. They drive me mad this time of the year. They are both pacing around the house crying and then trying to climb in my lap.

this didn't work with my lurcher, I don't like fireworks because of the impact on animals but am not bothered by them so I was really surprised when my lurcher had such a bad reaction..however its also storms, shooting, very loud noises that set her off. I got my collie cross as a puppy when my lurcher was nearly 3 and she has no problem with anything which upsets my lurcher....so I don't think can be anything I do....some dogs must be more sensitive than others.....so sorry to hear welshD s sad news, the sooner the things are banned the better IMO!!!

So sorry for your loss Welsh D.
We have a patterdale terrier who is dreadful with the fireworks and barks and stresses constantly and can not be consoled. Yesterday my husband took them out for a long lead walk round the village early evening with fireworks going off constantly. Interestingly he was absolutely fine all evening and hasn't barked once so far tonight.

So sorry, WelshD, that's horrific. :(

I'm very glad that after the first few years, big dog stopped reacting and the youngsters don't care. They were all wandering round outside while next door, massive rockets were going off. With bil's puppy, we started firework training by playing a film with lots of fireworks over and over again. He wasn't happy, but was getting used to them within half an hour or so. I hope he continued the training.

WelshD I'm so sorry :(.

One of mine is supremely unbothered by fireworks, the other is awful. She's been locked in her crate for yet another evening, fireworks have been doing since about 5pm and she goes completely ballistic. She won't even go into the garden to toilet when they're going off.

I got emailed the government response to the petition, basically said they have no intention of changing the laws at all.

Welsh D I'm so sorry :(

Out of my 3 it's just my Welsh sheepdog who doesn't like them, but is fairly ok with some rescue remedy and cuddles up next to me on the sofa. He sadly had a fright as a pup when next door let them off straight over the top of us without warning, my dog was in the farms indoor school at the time as I was cleaning the house and had the door open at the time and back then he had no recall. There was a yard full of horses going nuts as well, my landlord was not amused! Suprisingly the neurotic staffy seems to be ok with them and the JRT couldn't give a stuff.
