The current price of horse meat (obtained from the Italian Camera of Commerce website) is as follows...
Suckling Foal 2.10-2.40 euros a kilo (live weight).
Weaned Foals 1.60-1.80 euros a kilo (.. ..).
Adult Equines 1.30-1.40 euros a kilo (.. ..).
Please see my post on this thread .
These people are taking you for a ride !
Most of these animals were bred for the meat trade .
The drive to Italy is roughly 8 hours and they ARE NOW MONITORED AND RESTED EVERY 8 HOURS as is required by the law. Of course there will be the odd one who doesnt respect the law but sadly thats life!
The idea that there are mares in foal going to the slaughterhouse may be correct BUT, cows in calf go to the slaughterhouse and the meat from the unborn calf is introduced into the foodchain and is known as 'Slink'-its amazing what goes into sausages etc
.
Please do not fall for this scam-help the horses at home who may also end up on the meatwagon.
