Re: 'Taliban'

I'm heartily sick of the constant whining on here about everything.

From being accused of cruelty regarding barefoot to being cultish and a bully.......

Now the HHO offendergasmers are on about the word Taliban.....

Just carry on and let 'em whinge and be offended. Not your problem, is it? :D

Ffs, its only a word. If the barefoot posters who are frequently referred too as the taliban don't feel offended, why should anyone else? It's like something from mumsnet, 'aibu to be offended by the barefoot taliban'.

Sorry to be an old f@@@t, but I find references to the 'barefoot taliban' a little offensive, particularly with reference to the recent shooting of a 14 year old girl who was only campaigning for education for girls.

Using the word 'taliban' in the context you do trivialises them. How about using the term 'Gestapo' instead. Does that feel better?

Actually I hadn't paid it any thought, but then i saw the title to this thread and it sat uneasy with me

I know... that's why
I didn't object to the use of the word Taliban when it first came up because, rather than being the insult intended, the word means "students", which is actually quite appropriate.

As I said above, I did wonder about it earlier today because it has come to mean something rather different these days.

Oh right... what am I like..... :D

I do apologise, I haven't read the posts, I should have before commenting.

I also didn't know the true meaning of the word 'Taliban', and for the enlightenment, many thanks. However, I think for many people, right or wrong, 'taliban' has very negative connotations and trivialising the term is not appropriate.

I have no comment on the barefoot/shod debate. I have horses who are shod and horses who are barefoot, I do what's best for the individual.

Has it really tho? It's meaning is still being kept up by the barefooters sharing their knowledge and still learning?

Why should they stop using something when a group of people are warping a religion into something the world looks negatively on.

Now I've said my peice I'm off to clean the kitchen.

As the word means "students", was given by anti-barefooters as an insult and then adopted to take away that insult and it is always prefaced by "Barefoot" and rarely "The", I really don't see it trivilising anything. I quite like it.

The BFT haven't used it to mean students, they've been meaning the militant lunatic Taliban, alright, but they are being ironic.

The Taliban blew my brother into 4 separate pieces. He was a triple amputee who bled out in the middle of a road because his men couldn't get to him or the Taliban would have shot them too.

I don't want any sympathy, but if anyone should take offence to the use of the word then it should be me, but I don't give a ****. Come on guys, there are more important things to worry about in this world.

The term was used because barefooters were seen as extremist in their views, and perhaps some were a little intolerant of those who continue to shoe horses. Seems to fit, after all it is only a word.

No need to apologise - it was a valid point and at the very least, your personal opinion that you are free to express. The term 'taliban' with regard to barefooters was clearly not originally coined on this forum as anything other than to cause offence, whatever the back trackers may now say about students seeking higher learning. And I agree re barefoot/shod - suits the boy now, shoes on if it ever doesn't. Gosh, all this agreement...we seem to be forming a clique.

It's alright shysmum, calm down i am sure many have read zoon's post, and understood every word.

Just out of interest I've had a little search of HHO. The first times 'barefoot taliban' were used on here were by pro-barefooters. If it began as a derogatory term, then it doesn't look like it happened here

Really? That surprises me. I always thought it was coined by the anti's. why would a barefooter call themselves a Taliban? How weird?
