Went down to the field yesterday morning to find my mare hardly able to stand, blowing not wanting to move an inch, all four legs the size of tree trunks. She had been fine Saturday evening. Called the vet out, suspected Laminitis, but no heat in the hooves and no strong pulse. Manged to eventually get the mare into her stable. The vet arrived took bloods, the mares heart rate was high and she had a termperature of 41
! gut sounds fine. Mare was lethargic and weight shifting between hinds she was very very uncomfortable indeed. Vet gave her Finadyne and Antibiotics and rushed home to sample the bloods. One test failed as the blood had coagulated by the time she got back to the lab, the other test showed higher than normal Globulin levels, so a possible inflammatory disease. The vets and I discussed that she may need to be transferred to the Vetinary hospital
as we have no idea of a possible diagnosis.
This morning the vet came out, the mare is quite chipper, had eaten all her hay overnight and was walking around the box (legs still huge). On the advice of the vet we hosed her legs and turned her out, she galloped across the field reared, bucked and kicked the pony. Heart rate is normal as is her termperature. So within 12 hrs we have got from a seriously sick horse to one who fingers crossed seems to be recovering rapidly. My friend gave her Reiki healing late yesterday.
Has anyone had anything similar? laminitis has been rulled out completely, as has lymphangitus and cellulitus. The vet and I are at a total loss re diagnosis. Also, has anyone had a similar result with using Reiki on a sick horse.
I worried myself sick last night, and at the moment am feeling slightly more hopeful, I am keeping everything crossed that it is just one of those things and not something more serious.....
