Went down to the field yesterday morning to find my mare hardly able to stand, blowing not wanting to move an inch, all four legs the size of tree trunks. She had been fine Saturday evening. Called the vet out, suspected Laminitis, but no heat in the hooves and no strong pulse. Manged to eventually get the mare into her stable. The vet arrived took bloods, the mares heart rate was high and she had a termperature of 41 ! gut sounds fine. Mare was lethargic and weight shifting between hinds she was very very uncomfortable indeed. Vet gave her Finadyne and Antibiotics and rushed home to sample the bloods. One test failed as the blood had coagulated by the time she got back to the lab, the other test showed higher than normal Globulin levels, so a possible inflammatory disease. The vets and I discussed that she may need to be transferred to the Vetinary hospital :( as we have no idea of a possible diagnosis.

This morning the vet came out, the mare is quite chipper, had eaten all her hay overnight and was walking around the box (legs still huge). On the advice of the vet we hosed her legs and turned her out, she galloped across the field reared, bucked and kicked the pony. Heart rate is normal as is her termperature. So within 12 hrs we have got from a seriously sick horse to one who fingers crossed seems to be recovering rapidly. My friend gave her Reiki healing late yesterday.

Has anyone had anything similar? laminitis has been rulled out completely, as has lymphangitus and cellulitus. The vet and I are at a total loss re diagnosis. Also, has anyone had a similar result with using Reiki on a sick horse.

I worried myself sick last night, and at the moment am feeling slightly more hopeful, I am keeping everything crossed that it is just one of those things and not something more serious.....

Glad to hear that she has picked up again. Its quite likely that it was a one off and you will never know 'why'-lets hope so anyway! My friend helped my old boy when he had a bad bout of pneumonia by sending him regular reiki. He looked like death when he came home from the clinic but with her help he picked up incredibly well. Im convinced that without her help, Tom would have let himself go.
Hope her legs return to normal soon. :)

Glad to hear she appears to be on the road to recovery!

While I won't be bold enough to say of course the Reiki made all the difference, it hasn't done any harm. While I have never given my horse reiki to treat a symptom as he has never needed it, I have given it to my dogs with great results, and I am a firm believer (trained to level one Reiki so far).

While I would never claim it's a miracle cure, Ive seen and felt the benefits of it first hand....so to those that will no doubt say its all mumbo jumbo....don't knock it untill you have tried it yourself!

Thanks Fairynuff, keeping all fingers crossed and eagerly awaiting blood results and phone call from vet!

Dizzydusty, can you qualify as an Equine Reiki practitioner, or do you have to qualify with humans first? I am quite interested..

I hope DD does not mind me butting in  ..... but healing is healing and its for all creatures not species specific ;) . Its not like physio or chiro where the practitioner has to have anatomical knowledge.

I hope your mare contiues to improve LPD :D

LittlePowderKeg you do not need to train in humans/animals specifically. I've trained as a Reiki Practitioner but as I have a specific interest in helping animals I also completed an additional course with a Vet who is also a Reiki Teacher. If you're interested, the following may help you find a teacher.
