Bit of background:
21y/o NativeXTB strong type 14hh mare, diagnosed Narcleptic 2007. Probably been hasn't had many work breaks since youngster, apart from 08 where she has a lazy year. 2009 did a tendon, april 2010 did suspensory on same leg, Vet says from compensating with the tendon injury. Tendon then swelled back up. Vet said it was unlikely that she will be able to be ridden again. Took shoes off May 2010. Has alot of lumps and bumps on her legs, but has had these since we've known her (2002?), and vet put them down to a hard working life.
Since April, she has been out 24/7 in a fairly large paddock, (Not a lami pony, almost dificult to keep weight on), came in from the field yesterday really stumbling, and wobbly on her feet, barely wanting to move. She's not overweight, pretty perfect weightwise, otherwise happy and healthy.
She doesn't have a pulse above her hoof, not rocking back on her feet, hooves not warm, not showing any signs of laminitus apart from the discomfort of walking.
We stabled her, hosed her legs, gave her soaked hay, she went out for an hour in the afternoon and was the same.
The farrier suggested it may be concussion from taking off her shoes and the hard ground, instructor thinks it could be a set in of arthritus, suggested that once she did her suspensory, she could be going downhill quickly.
Have called the vet, but wondering if anyone has had anything similar?
Anyway, any suggestions/ideas would be gratefully recieved.
