Bit of background:
21y/o NativeXTB strong type 14hh mare, diagnosed Narcleptic 2007. Probably been hasn't had many work breaks since youngster, apart from 08 where she has a lazy year. 2009 did a tendon, april 2010 did suspensory on same leg, Vet says from compensating with the tendon injury. Tendon then swelled back up. Vet said it was unlikely that she will be able to be ridden again. Took shoes off May 2010. Has alot of lumps and bumps on her legs, but has had these since we've known her (2002?), and vet put them down to a hard working life.

Since April, she has been out 24/7 in a fairly large paddock, (Not a lami pony, almost dificult to keep weight on), came in from the field yesterday really stumbling, and wobbly on her feet, barely wanting to move. She's not overweight, pretty perfect weightwise, otherwise happy and healthy.

She doesn't have a pulse above her hoof, not rocking back on her feet, hooves not warm, not showing any signs of laminitus apart from the discomfort of walking.
We stabled her, hosed her legs, gave her soaked hay, she went out for an hour in the afternoon and was the same.

The farrier suggested it may be concussion from taking off her shoes and the hard ground, instructor thinks it could be a set in of arthritus, suggested that once she did her suspensory, she could be going downhill quickly.

Have called the vet, but wondering if anyone has had anything similar?

Anyway, any suggestions/ideas would be gratefully recieved.

How does she seem in herself? Bright and oblivious to the strange thing happening to her or a bit down, disinterested and confused?

Have you been advised to give her pain killers and what's her appetite like?

The symptoms sound like laminitis - except laminitis doesn't make them wobbly.

Did you or the farrier put the hoof testers on her feet? I'd be looking for anything that has changed very recently in her life and it seems that taking her shoes off fits. In the past, if she's lost a shoe has she been distressed? She may be very footsore and if you imagine how you would hobble barefoot down a pebbly beach, then your girl wobbling may be just 4 sore feet. But I wouldn't necessarily discount laminitis either until I was certain. Might be best to get her in on a soft deep bed right up to the stable door until the vet gets there. Fingers crossed x

She in herself is interested, being the normal moody mare she is, just not maving much. Full appetite, drinking fine. Not given her any pain killers, although we do have some bute, if neccesary. :/

I doubt she's ever had her shoes taken off before to be honest, and this is the only recent change, so it could be.

Thank you both, will wait to hear from the vet.

If she's had her shoes off since May, I wouldn't think it's that, they should have adapted by now, it is two months after all unless she's just caught it on a stone and is feeling it a bit, maybe a bruise brewing; the longest I've had anything footy after removing shoes is a month and we have some rough ground here.
I'm wondering if she's had some form of a stroke, even a very mild one can leave them bumbly.
Let us know what the vet says won't you?

Did the vet not suggest this? is she wobbles like shes drunk and seems uncoordinated it could well be. Prognosis is not good for this.
