I used to use the NAF fly sprays, but I have started using the one in the link below & have found it really good, big bottle & not to expensive either.
Another vote for Barrier Animal Health, I think it's super strength. I use the gel for around ears and spray for body, and it smells so nice, I use the spray for me (only for the stables )
This is the only one I've found really works for my boy with sweet itch. It really stinks though, and don't get it in your eyes, it stings!!!
I *think* its made by leovet. I used to get it at my local saddlery, until we moved and I haven't seen it since, could probably find it online though.
I usually buy my power phaser off ebay. I have one horse who is phobic about wearing flymasks and this stuff means she can be fly free without wearing one
Naf DEET is good for normal field use, keeps midgies at bay and lasts a good few hours.
However, although it's expensive, the Power Phaser is the only spray I have found that works during horse fly season... out riding, you can smell us a mile away, but it's worth it to keep the horrible buzzers away
Another vote for power phaser! Never found the smell bothers any of ours to be honest.
It's the only thing I've found that really works. It can be quite expensive although I bought the spray and the gel from supplement solutions online last July, it cost just over £35 delivered and have some left of both - you truly don't need a lot of it to work- I've got four horses as well that I use it on!
I found with phaser, the horses were not bothered but it gave me such a banging headache, like nothing I have had before so it went stright in the bin with the rest
the only one iv found to help my sweetitch pony is the net tex one
Avon Skin So Soft is good for midges, but I've found Coopers to be the best in general. Also has other benefits besides being a good fly repellent! It comes in a bottle to wipe on, but I pour it into a spray bottle. Also really like the Net Tex advanced stuff. Both of these only need to be applied a couple of times a week, thankfully not every day! xx
I use citronella oil mixed with water in a spray bottle... And dab neat oil onto his fly rug for when he's out. Seems to be working, and it's VERY cheap. Other than that I used to use power phaser but the smell made my eyes burn!
Power phaser is good but it stinks! You can buy it as cream which you put on with a sponge and I tend to use that as it doesn't stink as much as the spray one.
