I have got myself recently a second hand half lined sheepskin Bartl saddlecloth and have fallen in love with it, as has baby cob!
I'm now looking to buy another half lined numnah for every day use, looking at Lemieux, Nuumed and Morpheus Designs, which are a fair bit cheaper - does anyone know if the quality is up to the more expensive brands?
What stands up to washing best as it will be getting a lot of use - proper sheepskin or just wool stitched onto a backing?
Thanks - as a recent convert to wool I'm a bit clueless!

I have a lovely grey Lemieux half pad. it washes well. I swipe fabric conditioner over the surface then wash as wool in the machine about once a month. saddle was fitted with it but although thick it squishes down in use.

I use nuumed high wither numnahs. They are the lighter weight ones is it 6oz?? £50 odd i think. They are great, use one for hunting so washed twice a week and still as good as new.
Nuumed use british wool.
i prefer wool to sheep skin. washes and lasts longer and stick to the horses hair better.

I am leaning towards the Lemieux, I like the price of the Morpheus Designs one though!
My saddle was fitted with a polypad as he goes better with a bit of extra cushioning but he works so much nicer with the sheepskin, so who am I to argue!
Really looking for something that washes well as it will be washed once a week or so.

Ah, cross posted - fuzzy furry, how is the fit on the Morpheus numnahs? I need a generous fit at the back as the panels at the back of my saddle are quite wide!

Whereas I prefer sheepskin to wool that is knitted onto a backing. I took apart some old Nuumeds and found hard lumps of hair that had collected and matted on the other side of the backing. I bet the horse could feel them like lumpy flocking! At least if the skin is still attached, there is nowhere for loose hair to migrate to ;)

OP, I like Mattes numnahs but there is no doubt they are a bit pricey. they last for years if you look after them though.

Fit is excellent for mine, he is in quite a wide seated saddle.
i have both the black and the brown, preferring the brown tho. Thats been in use 4 days a week since early Oct and washed every Sunday , looks like new.

Fab, thanks everyone - I think I shall try a Morpheus one to start with, £45 for a numnah that's going to be used hard is a lot easier to swallow that £70 or more.
I'd love a Mattes pad but might have to wait until Christmas!
I was looking at the brown with natural wool, but the pale blue is lovely as well :)
