Either I am an obsessive sweeper or I haven't managed to come across a decent yard broom yet. I keep losing the heads with the traditional wooden style ones. I was wondering whether there are any that might be moulded plastic for example. Anyway, if anyone has any recommendations, I would much appreciate them.

Thanks. :) x

Look on eBay, I got a broom with plastic screw on head, with an aluminium stale.. It was brilliant so I bought another one.. Everyone on the yard wants to use it.. It was blue, and had silver stale

I'm an obsessive sweeper too, and the best brooms I have ever used are - wait for it - £4.99 from our local store Boyes ( a northern shop methinks). They have just the right flick to them, and last forever. Despite that, I have three spares in my garage, just in case they are discontinued. :o

This is the eBay seller with yard brushes, they last ages and don't break

Thanks - is it this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HAROLD-MO...StableAccessories_SM&var=&hash=item92b45863cc

Are the bristles quite firm - yes, I am very fussy. ;)

Hmmm, not heard of that shop - maybe a northern one. :(

I love these brooms :) Get into all the hard to reach corners, are lightweight and not expensive either!

I don't have a problem with traditional. But I push when I sweep, this one presumably needs a pulling action which tends to put my back out a bit, but I'm willing to put it on the possible list. :)

Nail the head on.

Have done. Many times. On several brooms. Even had to chop the end of the handle off as there were so many nail holes. :(

i got one from b & q, screw on head and wooden pole.....good value and has lasted ages..

Had one of those as well - it's lasted a year and now the hole has been worn bigger and I've tried padding it a bit, but the head keeps falling off. :(

I can't be the only person that has this problem, can I? :redface3:

Although not 'yard broom' size I got mine out of asda for a fiver (standard household brush) and it's great. I use that for sweeping wet bits and a 'witches broom' for sweeping dry bits and it's done in no time. I didn't think it would last long with the amount of sweeping it has to undertake (I'm a tad OCD about sweeping) but surprisingly it's just as good as the day I bought it.

I get mine from Wickes, seem to last well though the bristles do wear down eventually.

I think we may have a Wickes near us, so could go and look at what they have. :)

I'm using one at the moment, as it's the only one that will stay together, but I'm beginning to lose the will as it's so small. :)

These are brilliant....I am a manic sweeper also. These are great for rubber matting too :)

Now that I like the look of. :)

I have the Gorilla broom too- has a scraper on the back top :) just wrapped the join in gaffa tape so the metal doesn't erode away. Has lasted well I love it. And I have the purple :) (Only cos someone else on the yard has the pink though!)

"My name is babymare and im was an obsessive sweeper". cheap and chearful from a B&Q. Lasted years with help of a well put nail. So bloody good i had to hunt for it as people used it and didnt return grrrrr :) sometime, with some tlc, cheap can be good :)

I only get my 16 year old son on the yard in a headlock anyway lol.

Yes that's the one, bristles are plastic, take ages to wear away, and is great at getting yard and rubber mats clean

Thanks all - the Gorilla brooms look good, but I'll bear the others in mind. :) x

I bought a gorilla broom and loved it. Until someone at the yard slightly bent the handle, which then snapped on next use. Figured it was just a one off. Bought another as I'd loved it so much. Handle snapped again within two weeks. I'd buy another brand of handle if I could find one that fitted as the broom head is fab, but will never buy the gorilla handle again - for £15 a broom should last more than a fortnight.

;)I wouldn't recommend Gorilla Brooms, I bought one for the yard to use as I was fed up of looking for mine, it snapped in a matter of weeks. Another livery had the same problem. I think the pole is quite weak metal and tends to bend if used for heavy work. I am careful with my tools and my brush is still OK so far, just hope no-one borrows it!

I'm obsessed with brooms too! My quest is to find one that sweeps my bobbly rubber matts clean without too much effort! I know they are out there, my last yard had an excellent one but I haven't been able to find one like it. I have about 6 brushes on the go at the moment 😳.
Gorilla ones are sounding good, apart from the handle :-/

Sadly I don't know what they are called or where to buy them, BUT, you can get a pair of like metal brackets that fix either side of the handle and then to the broom itself. Had a broom with them at work and it lasted 9 years.. would have been longer but it got burned :(
