Apollo needs a MW turnout and a stable rug this year. Preferably fixed full neck.
I brought him a new lightweight fullneck already, it's a Rhinegold 6'9, and TBH is still a little tight across the shoulders, yet the neck cover is too big and slips down. :(
He has BIG shoulders, so I guess the rug needs shoulder pleats to help with the fit, and he is pretty deep in the girth too. He's just alot of horse really.
A Saxon rug looks like a mini skirt on him. So any reasonably priced suggestions?
I really like the Masta full neck, but are they any good for broad neddys??
Thanks :)

Axiom - really deep rugs (comes down to my horses knees!), plenty of room at the chest, lovely tent tail flap and VERY tough and hard wearing if you get the higher denier and also a very good price.

Horseware do a range of rugs for chunkier horses, Exel I think they are called. I find there is a lot is adjustment on Weatherbeeta rugs as well, the freestyle range are well shaped around the shoulder and seem to fit almost anything!

I will second AXIOM, they are dirt cheaper and FANTASTIC!!!
I just bought a second one for my mare 1600D and 300g fill for £49 with free postage!!!

Amigo? Really? I'd thought they were more for TB types, they don't have a shoulder gusset do they?? I have the Amigo day sheet, and it's not very generous round the shoulder. I didn't realise they did an XL rug.
So Masta's are generally ok then? That'd be perfect, as I really like them
Axiom, I'll have to google them as never heard of them before :)
Mark Todds, I didn't find fitted him very well.
Thanks guys :)

Only place in the UK that sell them is a seller on ebay. They used to be VERy cheap (as in 99p start price) but they've become hugely popular recently as many people discover how nice a rug they are, esp for the price. Just make sure you get a high denier one (1600/1800) otherwise they're no better than normal cheap rugs.

I'm not a fan of Premier equine rugs as the one I bought leaked right from the start. However I have been very pleased with Shires rugs for my big shouldered mare. I have a Shires Stormbreaker and a Shires Stormcheeta and they are both fab. :)

Have have just bought some from evision equine uk. Come nice and deep in the body and are great for broad chested horses. Its the best rug I have had for my shire and I got one for me rather chunky deeped bodied comtois x breton who normally looks like he has a mini skirt and its fantastic. Not fixed neck but come with a neck cover that zips on

premier equine or horseware. although I found PE do get heavy when wet so have switched to HW their XL range is really big. Friends IDx (big lad) just has the normal ones

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!
I must stress that you can park a bus between his front legs, he's that broad, lol!
So PE and Amigo are a little bit on the pricey side, he's just 3 so has lots of growing to do still, and chances are these will be one season rugs.
But does anyone have the winter buster PE rug, that can be used inside and out? That way I won't have to buy 2 ;)
I do like Masta's and weatherbeetas, but opinions seem divided on them.
Arrghhh, I hate making decisions like this. I need someone with a massive rug collection that I can try on him, LOL!

Another vote for Premier Equine, they fit my chunky TB x Welsh D a treat, never rubbed her and she stops in it day and night, breathable and they stay nice and warm...

axiom are SO cheap but not bad... i *think* raff's girly girly t/o rug is axiom... but not high dernier as he's never ripped a rug in his life. i am pretty sure it cost about £20 new... :o

i VERY nearly bought him the PE winter buster, but didn't have the money for another month or two, so bought the axiom to do him short term... then never ended up buying the PE!

Is it really?? LOL, I didn't even notice what make it was...ooopps!!! Gosh I am so observational!! It's a good rug actually, hmmmmm, if only it was a few sizes bigger, then I could try it on for size and fit, lol.
