Madam's physio has said that she would really benefit from icing her fores after harder exercise. Before I delve into the world of ice boots has anyone here got any they swear by?

We do quite a lot of boxing up and going for long hacks and sponsored rides with a little bit of hunting occasionally, so don't know if you are meant to chill the legs before you come home or if you do it when you get home (usually at least a 30 minute drive), i.e won't the boots have defrosted by the time you have ridden and then need to ice the legs? or are there some boots that don't need putting into the freezer?

Sorry for the novice question, but this is an unknown world!!

I have yet to find some that do a better job than crushed ice tbh, barring expensive ones.

I have a pair of boots that you put in cold water for a few minutes which are quite good, but you still need to take icy water with you.

For events I put ice cubes in thermos flasks and add to a bucket of water to put the boots in. Or I take crushed ice and doubled up tubigrip around the legs with the ice in the middle.

Would be very interested to know if there is a better way that isn't too expensive :)

Le Mieux do some good cold water boots that you just leave to soak in a bucket of water, the colder the better. We used to take them with us in a bucket and soak them whilst riding/competing and then put them on once finished. They do a good job of cooling legs down and are easy to prepare and transport without the worry of them melting and not being able to re freeze. I also have a pair of Ice Vibe boots - which are much much better as they stay colder for longer but obviously do need putting in a freezer.

I am currently looking at Ice treatment for a couple of ponies with Tendon injuries and have been directed towards the Ice Vibe boots. What impact does the massage function have? are they just a very expensive paid of ice boots? Or do you think that they are worth the expense for the treatment they provide.

I use premier equine cold water boots. If I need them colder after harder work I just add ice to the water. You only need to leave them on for 20mins

Not ice boots per se but I use geleze under bandage wraps to prevent burns (can also be cooled and remain chilled) followed by wine coolers - the ones you wrap around bottles, followed by half fleece half elastic bandages to hold in place. I only leave on for recommended 20 minutes.

It works as a cheaper alternative and I'm pleased with the results. Not as smart as proper ice boots though ;)

Should also add I don't think this would work of big boned or fluffier legs equine varieties as the wine bottle sleeves only come in wine bottle size. There may be a larger alternatives available, I admit I haven't looked!
