Hello, im looking for some opinions/advice!

After a short weekend away, i came back to find my pony had laminitis in all four feet!
There had been no change in her diet and she got fed accordinly to what was asked of her and because of her breed/weight she already had a limited amount of sugar in her diet.

She spends at lot of time out, in good weather, all day/night, as the grazing at my yard isnt very good, there were no concerns of her developing laminitis from that.

Together with the vet we came to the conclusion that she had concussion laminitis which made sense when i found out exately what my sharer had been doing with her. She had basically been working her too hard, for too long on hard ground and thanks to my ex farriers advise 'she didnt need back shoes'!

She is coming to the end of 3 weeks of box rest where ive gradually halfed the amount of bute and taken her off acp tablets and have seen a tremendous improvement.

Can anyone advise, now her feet are sound, if she can now be turned out gradually or if i have keep her in for a few days where shes completly off the bute to let it get out of her system?
Shes had no bute today and was hoping to turn her out for a couple of hours tomorrow?

Thanks Amy
The vet advised that when i feel shes making progress then i can gradually turn her out but was wondering if the 'keeping them in to let the medication clear' was nonsense!

Definately check with your vet, but if her pulse is completely normal, she is sound enough to be comfortable and you can definately turn her out on a proper starvation paddock, you should be OK to put her out for a few hours and build up gradually - check with vet though!

When mine had lami after 4 weeks box rest and she was sound after no bute for 1 week I then started turning her out for no more than 2 hours a day.
This was extended each day and she is now out 24 hours a day with a small feed at night with suppliments and happy hoof but the grazing is very poor with strip grazing each day.

Hope that helps

Thanks Tiggy.
Honey was origionally on apple charf but have now gradually changed over to Happy Hoof too.
Would you advise i keep her in for a few extra days of having no bute, vet said if shes sound she can gradually go out, which i think she is! Well shes started kicking her door which is another indication the pain has gone! lol
Are there any other tips you can give to avoid laminitis coming back? I know shes going to be at a higher risk now, but apart from diet, shoeing are there any other things to keep in mind?

Yes I kept my mare in for a week without bute to make sure she was fully sound and then turned out for short periods ifts onto dirt paddock and then introduced grass gradually.

I just watch mine like a hawk and keep her quite light.
I do feed farriers formula or other hoof supplement which hleps too but mainly diet and excercise.
