So, i'm wondering. Will red stuff clash with a chestnut horse? I never gave it much thought but new possible horse is chestnut and ALL my stuff is red. Will it clash? Any pictures if you have any would be good :) Thank you! :D

mine has a red rug and looks ok in it, i think it depends on the shade of shestnut really. I also have a pink ride on sheet and it is fine too. what red stuff are you talking about. If I found the right horse I wouldn't be letting the colour thing hold me back.

Red on a chestnut
Lucy couldn't wear red as it clashed badly with her. Green was her colour :D
(That was my excuse for never winning at competitions, The first place ribbon was red and it would clash ;) :p  :D :D )

But I have seen red on other chestnuts and it looks ok. I think chestnuttymare is right it depends on shade.

If you have the stuff already use it the horse won't care if the colour clashes ;)

red on a chestnut no , no , no it's against the law.:D:D

green looks lovely and i also quite like pale blue at a push but..........if red is all you have at the mo you can change things slow time..your horse on the other hand wont give two hoots!:)

Ooo no... I had the same problem as I had a few red rugs from my old bay horse which fit the new chestnut fine, but they look pretty awful. Maybe on a liver chestnut it would be ok. I can't afford to change the rugs so he'll have to put up with it, thankfully the turnout is pretty filthy so it doesn't really notice.

Have a worse problem as he won't load in my lovely little van so I now need a 7.5 lorry - this might be the most expensive barely-backed Irish 4 year old ever.

Flame is chestnut and her best stuff was all red, black and white, including red and white petal over-reach boots. OK we're going back about eighteen years but I maintain she looked epic! Sorry got no computerable picture though, at least I can't get old photos onto computer.

I thought my chestnut would look good in red so bought him a red saddlecloth....oops!! It doesn't look good to be honest. I think it will depend on the type of chestnut the horse is and also the shade of red you have. I do use my red saddlecloth, but only if all his other (blue or black) ones are dirty.

My gingey has red on her- mainly for silly superstitious reasons that when I got her (11 years ago!) her breeder gave me a "lucky" saddlecloth with her name on which was red and white!!
Annoyingly haven't got any pics of her in red matchy on this computer, so you can just about see her red browband!!

I also like her in burgandy, baby blue, cramels and browns, and bizarrely she looks great in lemons- this may be because of her barbie mane and tail though!!!

lol..don,t get me started...Flozza is a deep chestnut..she has red stuff and looks loveli in a red and cream brow band....she also has lots of baby pink stuff aswell...thanks to my daughter having no taste :D...if you,ve got it use it who cares what colour it is...as long as its not a gelding in pink thats very bad:p

Also - I have red hair that matches my ginger girl - and I wear loads of red too :) We like it - and we like to have clashy clashy competitions :D :D

OP - in all seriousness - I think red looks awesome on my girl :)

Worst colour I have seen on a chestnut was bright orange. The tack was orange, the numnah, boots, rider also decked out top to toe in orange.

Just to be different (& to show a simillar lack of taste), I've bought a dark neon blue bridle form my chestnut.

love the pic..we use a very similar brow band for shows, my daughter wears a red/ gold tie and hair scrunchie and a blue tweed with red checks:eek:....he he..none of yer usual green tweed:rolleyes:

thanks everyone :) well, the colour red i'm talking about is traffic light red (not dark red/burgundy) and the chestnut i'm on about is orange chestnut with 2 white socks and a white blaze. I do have some black show stuff somewhere so i shall dig that out, but my xc stuff is all red, saddle cloth, bandages, overreach boots, hat cover, gloves, jumper. so i guess we won't me matchy matchy but clashy clashy :D i don't like green myself so thats a no no, blue is already taken at the yard (everyone at the yard has their own colour, dark blue, baby blue, purple and pink are already reserved, my colour is red, atm i have a grey so its very striking but soon the grey won't be here and potentially might have a ginge) it'll just have to get used to it i guess :D it might actualy suit her :)
