Reflocking a synthetic saddle?

I've just bought a second hand thorowgood griffin synthetic dressage from ebay - seems to be a good fit but I want to get it reflocked as some of the flocking is a bit lumpy and uneven although nothing drastic.

I had the fitter out briefly the other night(they were running late and I had to leave for a lesson) - they didn't see me ride in it or anything but checked it over and flagged the issue with the flocking but said it would be near impossible to reflock as the saddle was synthetic.

I didn't get a chance to clarify but I can't understand why it would be any more difficult to reflock this than a leather saddle?

Does anyone have any experience of this - is it more difficult to reflock this type of saddle?

Rubbish! I presume they are a fitter, not a saddler maker?

I've had plenty of saddles, both synthetic and leather, reflocked with no issues.

I've been using a thorowgood T4 on my youngster, fitter came to check it and decided it needed some more flocking, it was all done on site in about 20 min, she said they are easier than most to do!

She's actually both!

She said that the sythetic saddles fall apart when you try to flock them and that a full reflock would be impossible.

Incidentally, how much does a reflocking generally cost?

As kallibear says, rubbish!
It can be done by a competent Saddler (rather than just a saddle fitter) I have flocked up and re flocked (there's a big difference) to lots of synthetics of various makes, Oz

I hope not! Maybe the really cheap ones like the rhinegold, but not the thorowgoods etc!

I've had two saddle company saddle completly reflocked, and a thorowgood cob. Plus many topped up and adjusted. A top up was under £30 (depends what needed done). A full reflock with proper white wool (the best stuff!) was £80. Well work being done.

I've had 5 Thorowgood saddles of various types and every one of them has been successfully reflocked/topped up at some stage. As kallibear says, about £30 for a top-up.

What absolute rubbish

Of course the saddle can be reflocked, and it won't fall apart!

Ditto eveyone else. what a load of cr8p!

A re-flock with wool should cost around £80. The horse should be ridden in the saddle and remember that flocking fine tunes the fit, it cannot make a saddle fit if the tree and panel type are wrong for the horse.

I recently bought a Thorowgood T4 and the saddle fitter told me that if it needed any kind of alteration, including reflocking he would be able to do it.

I had a leather saddle re-flocked last year with wool and it cost £55. I think the cost depends on where you live. It seems things are a bit cheaper 'up north'.
