Relocation... areas Kent/Surrey East/West Sussex

Okay, so a bit pie in the sky atm, but OH and I were talking last night about finding a place to live together.
He currently lives Bromley, Kent and Im in Oxfordshire.
He flies out of Heathrow so needs easily commute. Obviously living where I currently do is easy for Heathrow (50 minutes) but unfortunately Oxfordshire is the 2nd most expensive place to live in the country *rolls eyes*
So atm we're thinking of places around Kent/Surrey and sussex areas with land for the horses and pref enough to land/keep a plane.
Personally I want somewhere which is easily accessable for competition centres, and not coming from these areas I need all the help I can get.

So if any ideas of places around these counties I should look out for and what centres are there??

The girlfriend of a guy I work with is based at Heathrow and they've moved from Windsor to Hemel Hempstead, and she seems to find the commute ok. Sorry if that's not much help but I would've thought Kent, Surrey and Sussex would all be as expensive as Oxfordshire, so it might be worth casting your net a bit further afield.
 
I think he was thinking around Kent because thats where he's from and his mother still lives there, plus he has a lot to do with Biggin Hill etc.

Kent isnt as expensive as I thought, you can get quite a lot for your money

Im only interested in competition centres... Im not going if theyre miles apart.

You think Oxfordshire is too expensive...try finding anywhere in Surrey for £800k...full stop....let alone somewhere with enough land to keep horses and land the plane

Seriously, i'd have thought that anywhere in Sussex that is cheap enough would be too far away to commute to Heathrow anyway, and likewise Kent although you did say your OH was already Bromley based so maybe willing to travel a bit

Have you considered going West a little ? M4 corridor etc...Wiltshire is a bit cheaper...and still plenty of access to horsey places

Yep BBs, you realise you can't move without mass HHO approval, as we're all going to come and visit at some point - scary huh? Just remember, you can run but you can't hide.......

We are in N Herts about 1hr from Heathrow if traffic OK. There are a few private strips round here as we tend to get Luton/Stansted pilots here.

Put him in touch with my OH who is a helo pilot if you are interested in this area.
 
maybe a bit too far for you but another poss is Hants/Berks.. probs a bit more pricey than Kent but very central for lots of comps.. i live 5 mins from M3 and 15 mins from M4.. loads of events with in 1 or 2 hr drive in lorry, lucky me..!

Ooh exciting looking at houses, especially in the budget - havnt a clue where to do go tho, i'm Kent based but Maidstone way. Lots round here, but would have thought to far a commute for you/OH.
 
I dont think you will find anywhere in Surrey under 800k for what you want!

Loads of venues around tho, Frensham, Merrist Wood, Patchetts, Oldencraig, Addington, Berkshire College, Berkshire EC - most of those are easy drives if you are Hampshire side of Heathrow. Have you thought about somewhere around Fleet? You would probably get more for your money there and its easy access to everywhere aswell as you can just get on the M3 and go

Found one or two places in East Sussex and Kent under £800k with 7-10 acres, stables and menege.
We dont want anything huge, just something big enough for 3 horses. If he can land a plane (needs 700 metres) great, if not, not the end of the world.
He has one plane at Biggin Hill the other near Brighton, mother in Bromley.

I would be much happier wiltshire/gloucestershire as i know that area better for competitions and centres.

Don't come too far South (East Sussex) though, as it's quite a way to lots of places, cos south all we've got is the sea IYSWIM. If ever we have looked for a horse, for example, and set ourselves a limit of say 2 hours, we can't get to as many places in our time limit as people who are furhter away from the sea. Not sure if I've explained myself very well.........

i'm based near Hook.. Hoplands is about 50 mins, Sparsholt 40 mins, Tweseldown 25 mins, Mattingley 10 mins, BCA 50 mins, Medstead Grange 30 mins, West Wilts 2hrs, Great Tew 2 hrs, Stilemans/Munstead 1 hr, Highclere 40 mins, Wellington 20/30 mins.. not too sure about BD/BSJA as i only do unaff at the mo.. hope that helps..!!

I live about 10 mins from Biggin Hill (5 mins from junction 4 of the M25) and personally think that there are loads of competition centres! Put it this way, I tend not to opt to go to centres over 1.5hrs lorry drive away, yet currently have 16 BE events lined up for this season, the furthest probably being Mattingly which is only an hour and a half

Winter time, easy access to Duckhurst, royal leisure, norton heath, towerlands, oldencraig etc....

How much land do you want for 800k? Wouldnt advise going too far south down the A21 (i.e, east sussex) as that road can be a bit of a buggar if you get stuck behind a tractor!

Maidstone may be cheaper and also has good access to the M25 via the M26, so may get more for your money!

Good to hear that Biggin Hill area has lots of equestrian activities.
Think minimum land would be 5 acre.
 
I second that re the A21. I'm really close to the M25 and M20 in kent and there are loads of centres around.

Easy access to the M25 goes a long way re centres because then you have access to Essex, Surrey and Sussex centres without too much travelling to get onto the major roads.
