Relocation... areas Kent/Surrey East/West Sussex

This won't help you at all, but where I live there is a private air strip AND a public airstrip and you could buy a mansion for 800K.

The downside, well, we're miles away from London, miles away from most events but hey, it's a nice chilled lifestyle and if you like getting up at 5am to get anywhere, you'd LOVE it here

**sorry, told you it wouldn't help

Im in Chelsfield near Junction 4 and the A20 to - fantastic to get to everywhere !!!

There was a lovely place around the corner from me up for sale will see if it is still available !! only thing our councils can be a pain in the ar*e !!

Im close to biggin hill and bromley !

I used to Fly out of LHR most weeks and live in West Sussex about 10 minutes from Hickstead and found the commute ok- the area is great as there are so many Show Centres within a very short drive, and top riders on the doorstep to train with. If you event, there are lots of venues close by ie South of England, Borde Hill, Firle, etc, its a really horsey area, but houses are not cheap!- theres a house near us for sale with a Plane landing strip and its over 2k!!-I think East Sussex is cheaper, but as someone said- it is a bt further out for competing. Good luck though and how exciting!

Join us in Kent! There's always Kent international airport at Manston if you're desperate, 10 minutes from me haha! As far as competition venues go....not sure, but the people at the yard seem to manage and go to towerlands and norton heath a lot. Depends what you class as a reasonable distance

OK, landwise, we have 9 acres in a sort of wedge shape, the longest side in less than 700 m, it the land was a square the length would be even less.

Interesting, thanks Thistle

HAHA, sorry no, OH only has a sister.

im based at hook. for bsja its great. Medstead grange is about 30mins. yateley is 20mins. Patchetts is 1.hour 15 mins hampshire shows shows 1hour ish. Crofton manor 1hour ish. dorset 1 hour 40mins. wales and west 2hours ish langford farm 1hour ish. vicarage farm just over 1 hour. windsor park 45mins.... the list goes on.............

Which way do you go to Dorset? Im in Whitchurch and am going to Dorchester in a few weeks, was looking at the map and it says to go back via salisbury which i would rather not do - is it quicker to go A303 and then A350 to Blandford and then A35 to Dorchester?

I live in Salisbury, but my horses are in Whitchurch (Andover).

ohhh gosh, i must admit, im guilty of just loading the horses and letting my dad sort the directions out
laugh.gif
. but if i remember correctly we headed towards Blandford (if thats any help). and i belive we came back we went via salisbury way, and it took alot longer ( sorry im not much help)
tongue.gif

That was quite helpful, thank you!! I think going via salisbury is shorter in miles but a slower drive! Think im just going to head down the 303 and then down to Blandford as the drive will be easier. I didnt look much longer on the map!

Don't come too far South (East Sussex) though, as it's quite a way to lots of places,...

[/ QUOTE ] Depends which part of East Sussex! The northerly part of East Sussex is quite well-placed for getting to competition centres. Countryside is lovely too, and great hacking - and much nicer than Biggin Hill! (Sorry to anyone who lives there

I'd agree with that. Anywhere near Tunbridge Wells is okay to get to Essex / East Sussex / Kent etc....but as a result is also bl*vdy expensive.

Steer clear of anywhere near the sea basically as half your catchment area is very wet...and hence useless
wink.gif

Lewes is a reasonable place to be and very horsey. Easy access to Hickstead / Pyecombe / Royal Leisure / Felbridge / Golden Cross / Oldencraig / Sands Farm / South of England / Vicarage Farm / Borde Hill......and not too expensive either. You should just about be able to get a few acres and stables for your £800k....and it's only 15 minutes from Shoreham which is where your OH's other plane is based. He could also work out of Gatwick if the need arose
smile.gif

QR: I know that when we were looking outside of London we couldn't find anything for £800k that I would have been happy in in Surrey
crazy.gif
Good luck with finding something, the looking is the best fun
laugh.gif

PS You are right about Oxon, with a budget of £850k we couldn't find anything that was actually worth moving for
blush.gif
Mind you we will prob be stuck in our village for ever now....I feel rather damned
frown.gif

T_E he was quite taken with Belgium when I spoke to him about it.
I didnt know, but he informs me a lot of his mates live out there.....
Shall come visit on 12th
wink.gif

NO!
mad.gif
Sorry, you are NOT allowed!!! You have to move to Warwickshire.....and no land as you have to keep Snoopy here
tongue.gif
grin.gif

Seriously though, I think you'll find somewhere easily! We were going to buy a farm last year 1 mile from us, 22 acres of land, 12 stables and 5 bedroom house....£750,000! However, the house needed a lot of work (even though only 10 years old). We didn't go for it in the end, decided on building a yard instead.

Wouldn't personally touch West Sussex, go for East - more competition centres for a start.

Dont think WEST Sussex has one competition centre, let alone any more, only 2 BE events - Iping and Coomblelands/Pulborough (sp).

Hants/anything on the M4/M3 would be good - you've then got Hoplands, Medstead, easier access to BE going west wards etc

[/ QUOTE ]Thought they were east sussex?

Hickstead, Pyecombe, Golden Cross, Olencraig and Vicarage Farm are definately not in West Sussex

There's very little in the West of West Sussex though

Golden Cross is East Sussex, Pyecombe comes under West Sussex but is on the border, Oldencraig is Surrey (as is Vicarage Farm?), but Hickstead, Borde Hill, Sands Farm, felbridge, are definately West. Always suprises me when I drive past Gatwick and see the sign "you are entering west sussex".

Know what you mean though, must be a buggar being so far west of west sussex as roads cant be that great to get anywhere even if it is the same county

Yep BBs, you realise you can't move without mass HHO approval, as we're all going to come and visit at some point - scary huh? Just remember, you can run but you can't hide.......

Can ross come for his holidays??

He said he'd love to, but only if you promise not to turn him into a stressage pony like you have Snoop.

Suggest looking round haywards heath and crawley areas - good road links for horses and also easy access for him for flying stuff. I live in Haywards Heath and its really easy for getting everywhere. There is also lots on!

I dont think you will find anywhere in Surrey under 800k for what you want!

Loads of venues around tho, Frensham, Merrist Wood, Patchetts, Oldencraig, Addington, Berkshire College, Berkshire EC - most of those are easy drives if you are Hampshire side of Heathrow. Have you thought about somewhere around Fleet? You would probably get more for your money there and its easy access to everywhere aswell as you can just get on the M3 and go
grin.gif

Having been born and bred in Surrey I have to agree that it is a rather expensive place to live (even with your budget!), however as Tempi says there are plenty of places to compete
