Rescue fund raising

Have used rajar packaging for poly bags, I dont have any sealable ones but sure they sell them! not sure if viking direct do them, but their site is down for maintainance at the moment so cant check, and they regularly give things away when you order over a certain amount that you could then sell on or use in raffles etc! have had clocks, radio, backpacks, xmas hamper all free from them in the past!

A DIY affair might be best for the doggy biscuits? You can get plastic ziplock/sealable (sp?) type bags in large batches very cheaply (or beg some, for a charitable cause :D). You could then print the labels at home to stick on the bag. Would just need some label-style sticky printer paper from any large stationary shop.

R u serious, meprint labels, I will get my admin biatch to do that kindof stuff:rolleyes:

Ihave just ordered a cookie cutting scottie and a bone:D and im looking up ingredients, and we all know who will end up cooking them, my OH biatch:rolleyes::D

Will take a lookwhen it lets me.

I think little boxes would be nice, they can send plat packed and OH will put them together:D

A number of rescues over here also run calendar competitions so they ask for photos to be submitted and then judges pick the featured dogs for each month and then smaller ones for the dates page. Entry costs a few dollars. They also sell photo spots and sponsorships to companies. Probably too late for 2011, but maybe an idea for 2012?

Also, do you keep an email and mailing list of your adopters? If so, you can target them for an annual donation drive - some do it twice a year. If you do it by email, it is free and you don't have to pick up the phone. If you don't, it would be a good thing to start doing. People always want to donate to the place they adopted from and it's good to keep reminding them that it was from you.

We do not have a mailing list G but we have a pile of contracts, I will now start asking for E.mail and I think a data base is probably the way forward so we can doas you suggest.

I like the calander idea too, u have some good ideas;)

I'm glad you think they might be helpful. I was the treasurer for the beagle rescue where we got the beagles from for a couple of years so I'm trying to remember what we used to do that can be done anywhere. I did just remember that we included in our annual fundraising drives the owner surrender owners too ... some would donate out of gratefulness that we'd rehomed their dogs so if you have any of that information, then include them as well or start getting it.

Oh, just thought of another ... you should do a FB page ... it's a great way to fundraise by involving people and getting the link to your website out there. Here is an example. Somebody could easily manage that for you, all you would have to do is keep them up to date with what is going on.

I'll try to keep remembering some of the other stuff we did. I'm about to help a new rescue over here get off the ground so I'll let you know if they think of anything new that would be transferable as well.

I am trying to keep up with the thread (all ten pages :) - I think calendar is a good idea too. I love reading through all the posts and not experienced enough to comment on most but think you are amazing with what you do. I didnt even know you had a website. Couldnt you put the link in your signature (I am sure others do). Like the donate button and like the database idea. I would love to hear about and see the latest additions to your family. :)

Rajapack are good for packaging stuff and not too badly priced, we use them a lot at work. They do all sorts. Their boxes are pretty good - sturdy but easy to put together (even I can do it!).

Loving Galupy's calendar idea - pay to enter your dog into the competition (perhaps entries get a free calendar even if their dog isn't in it??), then you can sell the calendars too! Brilliant.... In fact, comps generally could be a good idea - perhaps a series of photo comps, 1 a month? Prettiest bitch, scruffiest dog, cutest puppy etc. Prize would be something donated from P@H or somewhere.

Things I would buy from a charity - fridge magnets (cos I like them and I put photo's n stuff on the fridge :D ), those little block notepads with a hole for your pen (I leave lots of notes for OH), calendar and/or diary, possibly clothing (though am a rather large size  ), baseball cap, car sticker.

Mailing list is a good idea - do a newsletter about what you've been up to, what rescues you have currently, what adopted dogs have been up to etc. Include a donation form so people can send you a cheque (include a list of what each amount could buy eg £5 feeds this dog for a week, etc etc). Could be expensive if you have to post them all, but an email list would be free (apart from your time, and there are plenty of offers of help on here, I'd be more than happy to type email addresses for a couple of hours lol). Do a big donation drive in the summer (people tend to have more money then, especially horsey people!). In fact, if you have time, I'd do a monthly newsletter so people don't forget about you.

Erm, still thinking of anything else....

The calander idea is fab, our breed club does one like that.
Cayla currently do you have a fun day/ big walk/any kind of yearly event?

Im liking the calander, how would I do this, from the rescue site, as in sumbit photos to admin biatch:D and get people to vote and the pics that should be used and charge peoplea small donation to enter their dog?

I will check out that packaging Co now rara, cheers:)
As soon as Vizzy is done with the logo I will look at fridge magnets and hoodies.

Vizzy my mam is thinking of organising a walk for New year.
I doubt she could do it, she is going poss have spinal surgery soon:D but she can do some ringing around:p

Yep, have a link from the front page - something like "Your dog can star in our 2012 calendar!". Then a link to a page telling you more about it - 1 contest each month, all entries receive a free calendar once they're produced, £5 per entry. Put a time limit on entries to give you time to pick a winner (eg 15th of each month). Visitors to the site vote, the most votes goes on the calendar. Not sure how long it would take to get them printed, cos obviously you would want them on sale from September really. Maybe you could have 3 or 4 winners at Christmas? So you could catch up with your entries. Would need to crack on with it, otherwise you'd need to do 1 big contest and pick 12 winners which might be more difficult. You could ask P@H/local stores etc to donate small prizes too - something slightly over the entry fee so people think they'd win something, like a ball launcher, or a Kong or something.

Oh yes, what a great idea! If you hold a competition each month for a certain month, it could be a different Olympic sport each month where we could come up with creative ways to depict that sport with our dogs. It would be a really novel calendar and very marketable by the time it is ready the Olympic hype would really be starting. You could have months for track and field; gymnastics; cycling, sailing, equestrian, etc., etc.

It would be totally fun because we'd get to take and submit new pictures each time and you wouldn't get the same ones entered over and over again each month. It would keep it really fresh ... People wouldn't necessarily have to get really fancy either - like for swimming your dog could just be in goggles and arm bands or laying in a mud hole or something (no, of course the Galupy mutts didn't do that this morning :D).

Also, pride of place on any calendar is the cover ... You could probably charge more for that competition and have it just be an overall Olympic theme (like London or the rings or whatever we come up with) to set up the rest of the calendar.

It sounds really fun!

I've just done it! There's a button thingy for it on the 'real' website here. Or you can find it by searching for Adopt-a-Dog North East on Facebook itself. There isn't a lot of content on either the site or the FB page yet, working on it this evening :)

How about training booklets on different areas for a suggested donation of £1 (or more). I know Cayla has done some but areas such as
Bringing your new puppy home
Crate Training
Feeding options including raw
Recall training
Grooming
Problem solving.

I know we have all had some wonderful free advice on this forum but I am sure most of us would be happy to make a contribution.

Excellent - it looks great so far. I just 'Liked" it so I'm looking forward to seeing more.

I think selling/asking for donations for the various guides is a great idea. I used to buy "your new puppy" booklets to go out with each pup to its new home, sure most people would be happy to pay.

Lol, I do have a 10 page puppy guide it covers everything basically except the barf, I gave about 40 away for free:eek::D, maybe I should charge?, not sure if they are worth charging for, will have to ask those who have them?:D

Well IF I ever have a litter from Evie (and you forgive me for doing so :o) I will buy some from you. Although I am really hoping she will have just one bitch puppy for me to keep.:)

:o. I'm happy to help run the calendar idea if you'd like? Say the word and I can start pulling it together and planning what needs to be done, timeline, etc. and what help I'll need.

That would be fab:D I would only demand admin biatch do it:rolleyes: and she has enough on her plate with the web site, I would then have made Vizzy do it, but I will let her of seen as she is doing the logo:D
*Im not lazy or anything* but I am useless, so what ever time line u feel appropriate and how ever see fit for entry/payment and all that stuff, where will I get the calanders made up, is it worth finding out how much they will be costing first?

I should have just PM'ed u:rolleyes:

Huge thankies:)

Im off to the vets soon to display my luxury cat and dog hampers that I bought and set up the portrait competittion so I am doing my bit I swear (and I just got up from night shift) Im not asking for praise.........honest:rolleyes::p

Haven't read all the ideas but we all know you knit your dogs anyway! ;) So get knitting woman! If they turn out wonky you can flog 'em as camels :p

I'd defo pay for your puppy/crate guides :D

Yeah right, I would prob have my eye out and that about as far as it would go:o:D

Why would u want the guides?..........for all the puppies you puppynap:eek::rolleyes::p

Yep. I've got all the crates stacked up 4x4 but the ones in the middle look bored...hoping the guides will tell me which is the best way to do it, little 'uns on top? Might lead to leakages when they're really wee, maybe have the big ones on top or would that cause them to tip over?? :p

Late into this as ever  but I'm back at work now :D Just to add that I'd pay for your guides, having had the puppy guide. I did find it a bit hard to read though :o So perhaps they could be proofread, add the logo on etc? And yes, I am volunteering, my normal work is boring :D

Hahahahaha I think it goes without saying that anything written by Cayla needs proof reading before its release on the unsuspecting public! :p :D
