Many years ago I had a couple of bad falls from my horse while jumping and ever since I have stuck to schooling and hacking, I don't think I've even done 1 jump since! I have tried but the legs just turn to jelly and I don't feel it's fair on the horse to carry on if I'm feeling so nervous! But I am desperate to try again, as I know we can do it! Has anyone ever used Rescue Remedy for nerves and does it work? Or does anyone have any suggestions of something else I could try?

I use it on all my nervous animals and on myself. It works great for me, but really does depend on the person/animal.

If you take a few drops on your tounge before you start you riding.

or you can build it up, take a few drops every day for two -three days before and then just before your going to think about jumping.

Have you done poles and such first?

yes it does work. Also, have your thought of Hypnosis? A while ago I completely lost my nerve to even get on my horse after it bolted for an odd reason. I'd ridden since a child/done PC teams/evented, yet suddenly I felt sick at the thought of riding which was ridiculous as the horse was safe. When I did get on I just paniced and froze. After a while of frustration I went to a hypnotist and it was amazing as suddenly I couldn't wait to get back on. Only a few weeks later I was out competing the horse which before seemed an impossibility.

I also forgot to add about - hypnosis - it won't change your ability but it does stop you focussing on the fear and allows you to focus/think about how you should do it. So in jumping it might stop you thinking you 'll hurt yourself and allow you to think about the approach to the fence, your positive etc and see the positives.

Yes. I first saw it used in a very unusual situation where a stray stallion was in an desperately over-anxious state. A local dealer who had heard I'd caught this horse but was having real trouble getting it into a loose box etc. turned up with Rescue Remedy, which I'd never even heard of. It was amazing!! 20minutes later I was able to pop the horse in a loosebox, give him a little feed and water and check him over. Before that it was all I could do to hang on to him, let alone touch him.

Like other, I lost my nerve somewhat after my mare ran away with me along our village street and it took about 3/4 of a mile to pull her up. On a friend's advice I took a few drops of Rescue Remedy before rides for a week or two, and again it worked.

Why don't you give it a go. After all, it can't hurt you, and it might be a big help?

I use it on myself and my horses with good results...and as horses no nothing about the placebo effect it must work ;)

I don't know but we're going to try it! Once u've jumped something even tiny u will feel better about it. I'm ok once I get going!

I did it!!!!! Yehhhhhhhh

I think I surprised myself tonight and I don't know if it was the Rescue Remedy I have been taking for the last couple of days or if I just felt more determined, but we did some jumping! Only a couple of small cross poles and alot of people would probably have laughed at me cos they were not very big, but I am well chuffed!! Fred only did one big jump which unseated me a little but apart from that he was great!

Next week .......... the Puissance :D :D :D
