Not sure if i'm allowed to post this on here as it's sort of advertising, but please, if you are considering getting a dog, please consider a retired greyhound (there has been another post like this recently and i thought i would back it up!)

I adopted one last October and although i had reservations, always having had gun dogs before, he is absolutely fab! Contrary to popular belief they do not need a lot of exercise and they can live with cats with proper training! They are so laid back and relaxed and are loving and fun dogs :)

I work closely with a charity www.kentgreyhoundrescue.com who has lots of lovely dogs looking for a home - have a look on the forum to see them :)

xx

I'd love to adopt one, but lifestyle and house and impending cat (aka the mini panther) don't really make for a great home, one day I will tho ;)

They are really sweet animals - my grandad used to have one and I loved her to bits :D Glad you're enjoying yours :D

This is the kind of post i like to see at the moment, I'm off to meet a potential retired greyhound to move into my home on Friday (had a phone call from the rescue centre this morning - not the same one as you, but one recommended via this forum) - he is apparently Cat friendly which is essential for me - keeping my fingers crossed!

Oh that's brilliant, good luck with him!! Just take the cat training nice and slowly and it will pay off in dividends in the end! My greyhound is excellent with any small furries, but the foster dog I have at the moment is just getting used to them - just facinated by the cats more than anything, so hoping he will be 'cat workable' xx

I cant wait to meet him, I'm trying not to get too excited, but from the photos he's so beautiful (or should i say handsome), keeping everything crossed.

ETS - thanks for the PM!

They make amazing pets and it is strange the public perception of them needing lots of exercise and being nasty.

A good friend of mine has one and she comes and stays with me and my dogs when she goes on holiday. All my dogs are in awe of her and she is a babe and fits right in a very easy dog.

Whooo the greyhound lovers are finally coming out of the woodwork :D
I adopted my lovely boy Barney in december and its like hes always been here hes so sweet and lovely and the rescue i got him from were so helpful :) My situation was diffiult (cat .. house rabbit  .. and anxiety issues) but they manged to find a dog to fit in perfectly and im so grateful to them :D He never raced as he wouldnt chase anything so hes still quite young (just turned 2) and still acts like an overgrown puppy  They really are perfect dogs and even my nan is considering getting one now and she was the one who said "horrible scatty skinny things" and Barney completly changed her mind when he lived with her for a month when i was in hospital :)

A picture of my gorgeous boy ..

Would certainly agree! I adopted a pair of brothers a few years ago as a first-time owner, we lost one recently but hopefully go back to 2 sometime in the future. They can have there quirks but overall a very easy breed to look after. I find it funny when people think greys must need loads of exercise as often Throp can't even be arsed to get off the the sofa at walk time and needs cajoling outside. You do have to get used to people stopping you to ask questions or to fuss the greys when out lol.

http://www.retiredgreyhounds.co.uk/ has rehoming branches all over UK
