Well daughter had her lesson with Richard Davison today that she won for getting the highest percentage at a show. She went there on Monday to have her wow saddle [secondhand ] fitted and Rafi needed an H girth which works brilliantly but he is still not quite use to.
We arrived in plenty of time and looked in the school where 3 horses were working under Richards guidance. They were doing lateral work and changes so straight away thought OMG what is he going to make of Rafi.
Tacked up and went to the outdoor to warm up.Then at 1.15 went to the school.Richard was very welcoming and said Hello to us all and asked about Rafi.We said he was purchased as a yearling for showjumping but has done so well at dressage that we haven't got round to much jumping. He asked to see him work and said he loved what he saw.WOW.
He worked on C sitting stiller and not using legs so much, he made her do lots of sitting trot [she never does any at home but has been riding bareback lately because of saddle problems ,so that helped.] She had to do transitions within a pace and shoulder fore [ she never goes sideways as she is so unsure if she is doing it correctly]
Then near the end of the lesson the next rider arrived ,who was Daryll Thickett, he is a beautiful rider .His horse was so naughty and he just sat to every buck and spin and twist, lovely horse.
As the lesson drew to a close ,Richard said how much he liked Rafi and it would take a very long time to find a horse that is as good ,he loved all his paces but especially his trot.He said he was not just saying this to be nice ,he really rated him.OMG.
I am rubbish at taking photos but here are a couple

I forgot to say she realised halfway though her zip had gone on her jods, lucky nothing is revealed on my photos but her purple pants were on view some of the time.
That is Daryll behind her.
Partoow you would have been proud of your pupil ,will see you soon

They're both looking really good. Great photos too.

Is that the WOW that C's riding on? Did you have it fitted whilst you were at Richard's?
I ask because I'm tempted to try one but I tried a friend's but the block's were wrong for me. I was interested to know what seat/panels/blocks you have and if C felt secure in her sitting trot with them?
Sorry, didn't mean to divert the post......any chance of a PM if you have a mo, please?

Lucky daughter - pics are really good

Why does your horse need a H girth? You could personal e-mail if you want. I'm interested because I've got a WOW saddle and they are suggesting I have the H girth

what a cracking horse, and how great that Richard thought so highly of him, i'd be chuffed to bits.
i'm reading Tina Sederholm's book about Great Trainers and there's an interview with him in there. Reading it, he went higher and higher in my estimation. His demo at Burghley last year was amazing, too.
somehow i doubt he'd have a very high opinion of a slightly-wild ex-racer attempting to do dressage with me on top, so i think i'll save up my pennies and have a lesson as and when i get a bit more of a say in things! i am very envious though, i bet he's a wonderful trainer.

Thank you ,as always for your lovely supportive posts.Rafi is By Renkum Valentino out of Renkum Jasperander who is by Its the business[ horsegroupie will correct me if any of that is wrong]
He needs an H girth because he is barrel bellied and every saddle slips on him.Hopefully he will change now his shoulders are free er but it worked perfectly.
David from wow fitted the saddle at Richard's on Monday ,I bought it on ebay.It has a no 2 seat[18"] wide gullet panels with tabs and dressage flaps with movable blocks. When she tried wow's at the equine event she found them difficult but David said she should try the club which she loved but I couldn't get a secondhand one and couldn't afford a new one, so I got her a comp.one and she loves it, hope to get some jumping flaps for it soon.
Again thank you ,he said she was very lucky to find such a nice horse and he is a find of a lifetime.Wish I could put a video on here but my video doesn't connect to my pc.

Ohhh I like him - lovely horse

Sounds like a fantastic experience and even better to have someone like RD rate him

Yes and he didn't mind going to basics and explaining them and for all his jokes in H & H about walk and trot tests he did quite a lot of work on the different walks and explained them.
He was so patient with a rider that has done very little lateral work and needs to be encouraged to do more and go out of her comfort zone

He looks so much like his brother, which we had on our yard for nearly 2 yrs, his forte was most def. dressage so lets hope they both do well
