Rider at Olympia.. NO bridle just bit..

There was an american rider who did this years ago, she competed at top level SJ without a bridle. I remember as I went out and put a bridle and reins on my pony at the time, then jumped a course of fences without the bit falling out (I was also bareback)!
It worked really well, the pony didn't even think about dropping the bit. I didn't use the chin strap as I don't think I paid that much attention to it! good job the pony didn't mind!

The commentators on EuroSport were talking about it last night, the girl commentator said she thought the horse was probably poll sensitive, and that she was going to try to have a word with Luciana later in the week.

As I said above, the horse was a violent headshaker and the lack of bridle is the only thing that helped.

They can lead it in a headcollar and they can put a bridle on it, it's just better without.

Up until '09 it was competing in a bridle.

I saw this last night, it was a brilliant horse and so refreshing to watch. She went clear in the first round over a big 1.60m course then sadly had two down in the jump off, although as she was last to go and some of the times were inredibly fast I don't doubt that she was probably feeling pressurised hence the mistakes.

We were all willing her to win though!

She had perfect control of the horse :)

I loved watching her round. The horse went so sweetly for her, it looked so much nicer than Ben Maher on the hideously overbent dark bay or Robert Smith bouncing about. That photo looks like the horse is so happy.

Exactly my response!

And where is catwalk now?

to the poster that critizized ben mahers lovely bay, yes it was over bent however he rode it very well and for a youngster stayed very relaxed in the notorious olympia atomosphere unlike several others!

Respect to luciana though, and the horse certainly rewarded her lateral thinking was a lovely combination to watch.

if anyone is interested here is a link to a video of another horse being ridden without a bridle, just the bit.

This horse was jumped at WC level in Australia before being sold abroad. It has gone without bridle since it came off the race track as a 5yo.

In the video it is 20yo and still jumping internationally, not bad for a TB!!

I think there was a thread about this in CR a few weeks back. I think its refreshing to see people work around the problem andI really liked that horse, looked happy in its work :)
