I am very impressed after having my first session earlier today with the Rider Reboot guy, David Sanders.

His name has been bandied about on HHO for a while now, but I had David Sanders down in the 'sounds interesting but he's based too far away from me' category.

It turns out that he travels around, and he was booked in at Kelsall today, which is half an hour away. I've recently had a couple of very helpful biomechanics sessions on Rocky the riding simulator who is now stabled at Symbiosis Rehabilitation at Kelsall, and Reanne suggested that I book on a 45 minute 1:1 session with David. 'Aha' I said 'I've heard of him, I'll give him a go'.

What an eye opener.

These are dismounted sessions. He assessed me as 'exceptionally strong ?' in my legs, but with a very restricted range of movement outwards from my hips, especially my left one. That tallies. He worked with me and gave me a range of different exercises to do, none painful, and by the end of the session I could move both my legs outwards to a much greater degree than hitherto. I've been given follow on exercises to do a couple of times a day. There's lots more to work on and address in other areas, but this is my homework for now. This is going to be very beneficial to my riding.

He's also a genuinely warm and nice guy. He may seem to be new on the equestrian scene, but he is a well established sports scientist who diversified into riders after Covid put his usual business on hold.

So if you get a chance and he's in your area, do consider booking a session. You're never too old - I'm 64.

Yes, he didn't seem to be put off by a somewhat wonky 60 something :D. His aim is to make his clients into the best version riding wise of themselves that he can.

I still seem to have this freely moving left hip tonight, it's quite astonishing. I have regular osteo treatments and do a weekly Pilates class and daily exercises as it is.

I just thought it was online stuff. I’ve never been really keen on doing that because I struggle to isolate muscles so chances are I’ll be doings bits wrong and making myself worse.
Absolutely going to book a session.

That’s really interesting and I’ll be looking into this.

Id also quite like to have a session on a mechanical horse!
Whereabouts are you? Hartpury do what looks like an amazing session led by an osteopath using a mechanical horse. They sent me a clip of one. I plan to book that too now that my saddle is paid for!

Glad you found it useful TP.

The dismounted assessment and follow up exercises sounds quite like Andy Thomas ? - has anyone done both RR and AT to compare?

RR works entirely off horse and covers a much wider range of assessments and techniques. He works on you to give the best possible version of you to your biomechanics trainer, regular trainer or saddle fitter and the programme is progressive. Chalk and cheese imo, though it's great there is more and more help for riders.

Can anyone give me a link or point me in the right direction to book please?
I was keeping an eye on venues up
Until Christmas and nearly booked a few times but kept hoping for one closer. Now I can’t find where I was looking or how to see what’s upcoming.

Riderreboot.com, for one to ones it’s mostly with associates rather than Dave, depending on where you are. Dave himself is Bury St Eds, most of them do online stuff, can personally recommend Lisa and Claire, I don't know the other two.
I didn’t realise that actually. Still no where local. :(
I may give the sessions at Hartpury a try

I’ve done both. I know a lot of people rate AT but I really didn’t. I thought the ‘wet noodle’ leg thing was a bit of hocus pocus theatre. And the activation exercises didn’t seem to do much. David Sanders is the real deal. I think he’s fab.

Having had sessions with both, I hold the opposite view..... David was completely disinterested, and never even e-mailed the promised exercises.....Andy at least tried, and was happy to follow up.!!

Actually my osteopath was better than both !

I followed him for a short while on FB but had to unfollow as I found him spammy and all the going live stuff annoying!
I have Andy’s clinic and he is really good!

I had the same experience with Rider Reboot: wasn't emailed the exercises or the videos of how to do them as promised, and my session was only 25 minutes not the 45 it was supposed to be. Three exercises, then lots of repeating them, and that's it.
